Drama-Preserving Handicap: In this case it's more of a "trauma" handicap. As poor Swablu refuses to fly for most of the episode due to the trauma it experienced after falling from a tree.
Determinator: Ash and co. are this in their efforts to help Swablu regarding teaching it how to fly.
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Thanks to Team Rocket's attempt to steal it. Swablu is forced to fly in order to fight back.
Out-of-Character Moment: Pikachu is generally depicted as more sensible than Ash and something of an Only Sane Man. Despite this, he was apparently just as fooled by the "magic powder" as his trainer was.
