I can see us now. You in a pure white tuxedo....

At the end of a long day, our heroes search for a Pokémon Center in a small town near Olivine City. Unable to locate one they ask a local lady for directions. She explains the nearest Pokémon Center is ten miles away. Too exhausted to extend today's journey, the gang decides to set up camp in a local park. As he gets water from a nearby fountain, Brock notices a Nidorina approaching to take a drink. Running after Nidorina is her trainer, who trips and almost falls into the fountain. She is narrowly saved by Brock and immediately falls head-over-heels in love with him. Introducing herself as Temacu, she insists Brock and his friends stay with her at her father's house. How will Brock handle a large dose of his own medicine from the smitten Temacu?

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Continuity Nod: James briefly remembers Jessiebelle.
  • Dub Name Change: One version renamed Temacu to Temakou, to avoid a mild profanity.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Temacu unwittingly gives Brock a large dose of his own medicine, as mentioned in the synopsis. He's girl-crazy; she's boy-crazy; and, like Brock's crushes are to him, most objects of her affection don't reciprocate. Including Brock. (Initially, anyway.)
  • Has a Type: Attractive boys who "rescue" Temacu will have to deal with her Motor Mouth Wacky Marriage Proposals.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Temacu doesn't seem to mind the fact that James is a member of a criminal organization. In fact, she even brushes off his lawbreaking as a hobby!
  • Love at First Sight: Temacu falls head-over-heels, instantly, upon seeing the face of every boy who breaks her fall or otherwise saves her life. Not only that, she immediately starts talking about marriage in a rapid-fire fashion. Brock and James are freaked out when they're the receiving end, but she meets a fellow believer in betrothal-at-first-sight as the episode concludes.
  • Love Freak: Temacu was so excited and impressed by her relative's wedding that she developed an obsession with matrimony.
  • Meaningful Name: Temacu explains that her name is a portmanteau of Pokémon that she shares attributes with: "Te" for cute Teddiursa, "ma" for super-cuddly Mareep, and "cu" for lonely little Cubone. She also suggests a Meaningful Rename for both Brock and James using similar logic.
  • Motor Mouth: Temacu, full stop.
  • Mrs. Hypothetical: Temacu is so infatuated with Brock that she quickly offers to change her last name to his as part of her Wacky Marriage Proposal.
  • Rescue Hug: How Brock and Temacu meet.
  • Rescue Romance: Three in two days! And rather superficial ones at that.
  • Shipper on Deck: After watching Brock flirt with every girl he meets, Misty gets frustrated watching him get completely flustered by Temacu's affections and decides to give him a verbal kick in the pants.
Misty: What's the matter with you, Brock? That girl really likes you. Why can't you talk to her instead of grunting and groaning?
Brock: Well, I don't know. I've never been in a situation like this before. I don't exactly know what to say to her.
Misty: That's lame. Just say anything. She's lobbing you one big softball after another, and all you have to do is step up to the plate and take a swing and you'll hit a home run every time.
  • Ship Tease: While Ash and Misty watch Temacu plan her wedding with Brock.
Misty: You and I will be married someday too.
Ash: (nods, and then has a Double Take)
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: One would think so. Her type is boys who save her life in some way. She happily informs her father that Brock is a fantastic Pokémon breeder and eventually winds up engaged to her doctor. But her crush on James reveals a Trope Subversion — Temacu cheerfully brushes off his lawbreaking as a hobby, and becomes a Violently Protective Girlfriend even after he and the rest of Team Rocket start blatantly running away with Pokémon stolen from her father.
  • Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Brock decides he's in love with Temacu just when she and James get engaged. Temacu is hurt and rendered unconscious while trying to protect James later, until he blasts off with the other Team Rocket members. She wakes up in the hospital with Brock ready to reclaim her love... and she falls for her doctor. As it turns out, the doctor is as much a believer in rushing as she is. (Considering how Brock's Love Epiphany was "If she's good enough for James, she's good enough for me", though, it's probably for the best.)
  • Yo-Yo Plot Point: The following happens thrice in a single episode (first, to Brock; next, to James; finally, to her doctor).
Boy: [prevents Temacu from tumbling down/saves her life by another means]
Temacu: [turns to see her rescuer, falls in Love at First Sight, complete with sparkling eyes and Crush Blush]
