Brock's Golbat is drawn to a supersonic sound wave from a broken detector belonging to an archaeologist named Tierra. She explains that she is looking for the remains of a temple belonging to an ancient queen who could control Pokémon by using a special mask and staff. Since most of her equipment was destroyed in an undescribed accident, our heroes decide to help her finish her dig, but trouble arises when Team Rocket manages to find the mask and staff first.
- Immune to Mind Control: Golbat is the only Pokémon that the mask and staff don't work on, since the staff works by emitting a supersonic sound wave and Golbat can counter it with its own Supersonic.
- Noodle Incident: We never find out what happened to Tierra that caused her equipment to break or her to be knocked unconscious.
- Power at a Price: Jessie learns that the mask and staff will only work within the boundaries of the queen's village, meaning that in order to reign as Pokemon Control Queen, she'd need to spend the rest of her life in the village ruins.
- Took a Level in Badass: Brock's Golbat evolves into Crobat, becoming much faster and stronger in the process.
