Recap / Pokemon S 19 E 32 A League Of His Own

Go To

  • Badass Boast: Ash unabashedly announces his entrance by declaring he'll conquer the Kalos League. This solicits various (but none of which are negative) reactions from his friends.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Alain VS Trevor is probably the series' absolute worst, most one-sided onscreen trainer battle. And yes, that's counting Tobias' battles.
  • I Gave My Word: After deferring the Furfrou trainer's first challenge, Ash promises that they'll battle next time. When the trainer in question ambushes Ash on his way to his first league battle, Ash agrees to battle him.
  • Internal Reveal: Tierno and Trevor learn about Ash-Greninja, and Sawyer and Alain learn that Ash has finally mastered the forme.
  • Later-Installment Weirdness / Truer to the Text: Heat Wave is shown as Mega Charizard Y flapping its wings and unleashing a gust of hot air unlike its previous appearances where the Pokémon using it blew a gust of flames from its mouth at the opponent.
  • Negated Moment of Awesome: Mega Charizard Y makes its first on-screen appearance — and inflicts no damage against Alain's Charizard. It then goes down in one hit after Alain's Charizard Mega Evolves into its X form.
  • Parallel Conflict Sequence: Ash is coerced into battling the anonymous Furfrou trainer during the Alain/Trevor battle.
  • The Bus Came Back: Astrid and Remo make their first appearance ever since Mega Evolution Special I.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Mega Evolution is a relatively new thing in the anime, yet no one comments that Trevor and Alain have two distinct Mega Evolutions for Charizard, even though no other Pokémon save the legendary Mewtwo has more than one.
  • The Worf Effect: Trevor's Mega Charizard Y, Aerodactyl and White Flower Florges are utterly beaten into the ground in one blow each to set up Alain as Ash's greatest rival of the Kalos League saga.
