• Broad Strokes: Despite Pokémon: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel being a Non-Serial Movie, this episode shows the resolution of Alain and Korrina's battle.
• The Bus Came Back: The twerps pay a visit to Goodra, though it won't officially return to Ash's party for another three episodes.
• The Comically Serious: The mischief of a rampaging Carbink leads Florges to have humorous snit fits at a resident Quagsire.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: Korrina's Mega Lucario is badly beaten by Alain's Mega Charizard X.
• Denser and Wackier: Florges was the Arc Villain for most of Goodra's character arc and even post Heel–Face Turn was a serious Dark Action Girl. She and her army play the role of comic relief for their return this episode.
• Dramatic Entrance: Team Rocket do this on a regular basis, but their marching into scene with the Carbink mech gives a new level of Oh, Crap! from the twerps. "Rocket-dan Danka" blaring in the background helps a lot.
• No-Sell: Taking a point blank Psybeam from Inkay doesn't do much more than make Goodra angry.
• The Worf Effect: During Team Rocket's second rampage on the wetlands, Florges and her army prove useless against their new mech. As usual, the mech is electric resistant, so Pikachu does no better, leaving Goodra to team up with a flock of Carbink to stop them.
