• Continuity Nod: In this episode, Team Rocket builds an actual rocket that could get them into space. Wondering how they were able to do this, in the previous episode "Challenging a Towering Figure," the vendor Team Rocket worked for paid them enough money that they could "by a rocket if they wanted to." Looks like Team Rocket took his idea seriously.
• Deceptively Cute Critter: An evil, manipulative Togepi uses its cute appearance to play tricks on both Ash's friends and Team Rocket.
• Enemy Mine: Team Rocket ends up teaming up with Ash and his friends to take down Togepi.
• Female Monster Surprise: Its immunity to the female Togepi's Attract confirms that Jessie's monstrous, deep-voiced Yanmega is actually female, much to everyone's surprise.
• Gender Reveal: This episode revealed the genders of several Pokémon thanks to Togepi's use of Attract — Pikachu and Piplup are confirmed to be male when they fall for it alongside the male Meowth, while Jessie's Yanmega is unaffected and thus confirmed to be female.
• Luminescent Blush: Yanmega's head flashes red after Jessie realizes that she's a girl.
