Recap / Phineas And Ferb The Lemonade Stand

Go To

Phineas and Ferb build a lemonade stand, which quickly catches on and becomes franchised throughout town. Meanwhile, Candace has a fight with Stacy when she is forced to pick busting her brothers or hanging out with her, and Doofenshmirtz makes a Paper-Cut-inator, shooting sharp pieces of paper across the Tri State area and forcing people to buy Doofenshmirtz brand bandages for the resulting paper cuts.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: After being forced to choose between reconciling with Stacy and busting her brothers, Candace appears to start to tell Linda about the lemonade stand, but instead tells her that she will be at the mall with Stacy.
  • Brick Joke: When Doof first activates the Paper Cut-inator, it only produces a small sheet of paper which flies swiftly through the air. That same piece of paper comes back into play in the climax, when it slices the finger of the lemonade machine, and lemon juice pours into the cut, causing the machine to short-circuit, ending the franchise.
  • Captain Oblivious: Candace is so depressed about her friendship with Stacy ending that she fails to notice all the Phineas and Ferb lemonade shops popping up all over town.
  • Chewing the Scenery: One of Phineas and Ferb's lemonade stand customers is a little too enthusiastic about lemonade.
Man: Their lemonade stand is at the grocery store, the book store, and the mall; it's even being served on my favorite airline! Yeah! OH YEAH! (puts on lemon hat and rips shirt) WOO! WOOO! LEMONADE! In your face, orange juice! BOOYAH! That's right! BOO-YA! LEMONADE! AH!
Phineas: Okay... No more for that guy.
  • Clapper Gag: By clapping his hands, Ferb can rotate the entire lemonade-making machine underneath the earth, restoring the backyard to its normal appearance.
  • Continuity Nod: When Candace walks into the lemonade stand, Buford tells her about how he lost his goldfish, Biff, and had to go out into the deep ocean and fight a giant squid to rescue him.
  • Creature of Habit: When Vanessa trips and spills some lemonade on her father, who is covered in paper cuts, he shouts, "Ow! That smarts, Perry the Platypus!!"
Vanessa: Um, Dad, you know he's not here, right?
Doofenshmirtz: Yeah, I know, but I'm sure it's his fault.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Linda somehow didn't notice the lemonade machine from behind the house before Ferb flipped it underground.
  • Fortune Teller: Perry "fights" Doof using a paper fortune teller that many school kids use.
Doofenshmirtz: I am not in love with Sophie! I am not!
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: A less perilous variant. Candace is forced to either choose between apologizing to Stacy (before she leaves on a bus) or telling Linda about the lemonade stand business (one of the stands is right behind Linda). After frantically debating to herself on what to do, she ultimately decides to go with Stacy.
  • Feud Episode: Between Candace and Stacy.
  • Gretzky Has the Ball: During their "paper fight", Doof throughs a paper football at Perry, and when it goes over Perry's head, Perry puts his arms over his head, which means "touchdown", but Doof thinks he meant "goal".
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Doofenshmirtz's plan to cause everyone in Danville to have paper cuts backfires when Perry jams his Paper-Cut-Inator with a plunger, causing the machine to explode and send thousands of sharp paper at Doofenshmirtz, giving paper cuts all over his body. And then Vanessa accidentally spills lemonade on him.
  • How Did That Get in There?: Candace has only five contacts in her phone: Jeremy, Stacy, Jenny, Linda... and Buford! When she sees the last one, she reacts this way and immediately deletes him.
  • Lemonade Stand Plot: The plot is put forward when Candace complains that her brothers don't do normal things like start a lemonade stand. So they start one, but since the boys tend to think big, it soon becomes an entire business with franchises all over the Tri-State Area.
  • Letting the Air out of the Band: When Candace realizes how widespread Phineas and Ferb's lemonade stand business had become.
  • Metaphorgotten: Candace says she will be watching her brothers all day, "like a book on a shelf", but then realizes that's a bad simile, so she tries "like a beard on a face", which she is disgusted by, but then settles for "like a light switch on a wall... that's always on... like I am... on you!"
  • Missed Him by That Much: After Candace gets on the bus with Stacy and makes up with her, all the P&F Lemonade stores shut down just before Linda turns around, wondering about them.
  • Mistaken for Profound: Candace interprets Buford's story as saying that if Stacy is really her best friend, she should just apologize and Stacy will take her back. Buford was just telling her a story about his goldfish.
Buford: Oh, sure, it's all about you!
  • Overly Long Gag: When Candace and Stacy break off their friendship, both girls attempt to get the last word in.
Candace: I guess you're not my best friend!
    Stacy: Not anymore!
    Candace: Fine! (slams door)
    Stacy: Fine!
    Candace: Fine!
    Stacy: Fine!
    Candace: FINE!!!
    (Cut to D.E.I.)
    Doofenshmirtz: FINE-ally! The plumber!
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Perry disguises himself as a plumber using only a cap and a toolbelt, and Doofenshmirtz doesn't even notice until Perry takes the disguise off.
Doofenshmirtz: What kind of a plumber are you?
(Perry chitters and takes off his plumber's hat)
    Doofenshmirtz: A platypus plumber?
    (Perry puts on his fedora)
    Doofenshmirtz: Perry the Platypus plumber?
(Perry gets annoyed, takes off his toolbelt)
    Doofenshmirtz: Perry the Platypus!
  • Plumber's Crack: Perry has one when he bends over to check Doof's garbage disposal (though we only see him from the front side). Doof is disgusted by it and decides to leave the room.
  • Record Needle Scratch: When Candace interrupts Buford's story.
  • Spoonerism: Candace picks back and forth between "Mom! Stacy! Mom! Stacy! Mom! Stacy! Stom! Macy! Stop it! Mulberry! Shish kebab! Marmalade! Hominahaaaaaaa....."
  • Toilet Paper Trail: Doofenshmirtz traps Perry using a roll of toilet paper but accidentally steps on it and makes a trail, causing the entire roll to run out and allowing Perry to escape by ripping through the empty paper tube.
  • Trick Dialogue: After flipping through her contacts, Candace sees a random girl waving to her, calling her best friend, even though she doesn't know her, she accepts... only to find out she was talking to someone behind her.
Girl: Did you see that lonely girl?
Girl's Best Friend: Yeah, she was, like, all by herself and singular.
  • Unflattering ID Photo: In the newsreel for Doof's inator, the file photo of Doof has him making a weird but hilarious face. ("I was sick that day.") See for yourself and laugh!
Doofenshmirtz: Yeah, that picture's gonna haunt me.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We don't know what happened to the lemonade-making machine after Ferb rotated it and it went underground.
