Recap / Phineas And Ferb Phineas And Ferb Busters

Go To

To aid in her goal to bust her brothers, Candace recruits help from Stacy and Jenny when the boys make giant spinning tops powered by an unlimited supply. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz builds a robot to replace Norm, but things go awry when a power surge causes the robot to make Doofenshmirtz his target.

Tropes:

  • Borrowed Catchphrase:
Candace: Stacy, I know what we're gonna do today.
    • Also, Phineas lets Baljeet say "Where's Perry?", but before he can say it, the scene cuts to Major Monogram saying it.
  • Brick Joke: Jenny claims to be all about her persimmon colored uniform, but later, during all the chaos, Jenny offhandedly says she lied about the persimmon.
  • Contrived Clumsiness: Norm pretends to side with Doof's new robot, then "accidentally" spills coffee on him, causing the robot to short out.
  • Doomy Dooms of Doom:
Baljeet: It is called "Spinning Tops".
    Buford: Lame!
    Baljeet: "... Of Doom!".
Buford: Alright, I'll give it a shot.
  • Hamster-Wheel Power: Why was Norm not affected by the power surge? Simple. He runs on squirrel power.
  • Idiosyncratic Wipes: The training scenes during the "Bust Your Brothers" montage are interspersed with a picture of Phineas and Ferb with a no symbol superimposed over them flying toward the camera and back.
  • Idiot Ball: Candace herself has no major excuse to not check up on the backyard and just bring Mom there anyway without waiting for the signal.
  • In Medias Res: Similar to the start of "Leave the Busting to Us!", this episode once again begins with another failed busting attempt by Candace.
  • Lawful Stupid: Candace was so focused on waiting for the signal she wastes all allotted time to show her Mom that the big idea is gone when they enter the backyard.
  • Letting the Air out of the Band: When Baljeet spins his top and it falls over almost instantly.
  • Literal-Minded:
    • Major Monogram tells Perry, "Doofenshmirtz is up to something and if we're gonna put a stop to it, we'll need a little of that old egg-laying mammalian magic." Cue Perry pulling a magic trick and vanishing from Monogram's sight after the briefing is over, although we see that Perry just did a Smoke Out and crawled under the computer desk.
    • Also after Doofenshmirtz asks Norm to fill up his bubble bath, we see Norm filling a bathtub by blowing soap bubbles into it one by one.
  • Rapid-Fire "But!": Apparently, Candace is so distraught about her latest failed busting attempt, that she stays out in the backyard all night doing this with her hair tied like a bonnet.
Buford: You've inspired me. I'm growin' out my bangs.
  • Running Gag: Buford dismissing the tops as "LAME!", even after they kick it up a notch. He even says it after Jenny and Stacy say it together.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Candace, Stacy and Jenny pose wearing tracksuits while an explosion blares in the background, mimicking the opening scene of Charlie's Angels.
    • One towards Scarface (1983), just before Doofenshmirtz fires a straitjacket from a cannon at Perry:
Doofenshmirtz: Say hello to my little friend!
    • Also this, after Doofenshmirtz praises his new robot in front of Norm's face:
  • Spanner in the Works: Unsurprisingly, Candace herself is the one who ruins her plans to bust her brothers as she is unable to get the signal from Jenny and Stacy when their headsets break from the radiation, and refuses to move until they signal her. Also, Buford is the one who causes the conflict as him causing the power surge results in Stacy and Jenny's headsets breaking, meaning they cannot signal Candace.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: At the beginning, Candace is checking on some amusement park thing the boys built, but when she goes off to get Mom and returns, it has vanished.
  • Sucksessor: Doofenshmirtz is fed up with Norm's antics that he builds himself a new robot that is more efficient and useful than Norm is, making Norm feel hurt and hide in his closet storage. However, after Phineas and Ferb's power source surges out of control, the new robot is over-charged, transforms into a Humongous Mecha and starts turning against Doofenshmirtz, being so close to killing him until Norm manages to thwart it.
  • Training Montage: Set to the song "Bust Your Brothers" as Candace trains Stacy and Jenny to bust her brothers at "Bust Camp".
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The power surge Buford generates causes Doofenshmirtz's new robot to turn against him.
  • Wham Line: When Norm "accidentally" trips and spills coffee on the new robot:
Doofenshmirtz: Oh, it's lucky for me you tripped on that rug again.
Norm: There was no rug, sir.
