Recap / Peeking Through The Fourth Wall Episode 5

Go To

Lincoln is back on the couch, and this time, he's brought along all his sisters. This is because they're going to be reading Trustworthy, which they've gotten a lot of requests for.

The story begins with Lincoln getting ready for an Ace Savvy convention at... the comic book store? Where you can meet Ace Savvy in person? And the person who displays the best "superhero skills" gets to appear in the next Ace Savvy comic book.

He goes into the hallway to find all his sisters laughing at him and teasing him. Then, the twins don't let him go to the bathroom because they think he'll clog the toilet again. They continue to laugh at him and meanwhile, on the couch, Lily keeps pointing at the screen and saying, "Men!".

The fanfic sisters continue to tease Lincoln in Vanzilla and claim he'll probably screw up, and eventually he gets let out.

At the convention, Lincoln has to beat up a robot, while Luan films him doing it, but the robot beats him up instead and he ends up falling off the stage and knocking over the comic books. The sisters laugh at him again and Luan uploads the video to YouTube (breaking character by doing it without his permission). This makes him very sad and embarrassed on the way home, to the point of tears, but the sisters continue to tease him.

When they get home, they find the TV remote broken and the girls all blame Lincoln since he was the last person to use it apparently. This gets him grounded and denied dessert. The siblings comment on the uncharacteristic antagonism of the fanfic sisters, and it turns out that Lily's saying "men" is trying to say "mean".

Fanfic Lincoln goes into his room to sulk and breaks his family photo. That night, he decides to run away, making some of the siblings reading the fanfic get teary-eyed themselves.

Fanfic Lincoln ends up going to Bobby's house, where the truth about the Princess Pony book is revealed to Lucy's sisters. The fanfic Santiago kids let him stay at their place for a few nights and Bobby wants to break up with Lori, but Lincoln tells him not to tell his sisters he's there because he wants to wait and see if they really do miss him.

The next morning, the fanfic version of Lincoln has breakfast with the Santiagos and his sisters are eating at home (their parents are going off for some reason), when they notice Lincoln isn't present, so Leni goes up to find him, only to find him missing.

After breakfast, they go over to see Clyde, but his dads just slam the door on them. They try Pop-Pop but he doesn't know either, so (and strangely, Leni suggests this), they look at the Santiagos'. When they show up, Lincoln hides in Ronnie Anne's room while Bobby plays dumb. Lincoln is convinced that his sisters didn't look worried about him.

The fanfic sisters go home and search Lincoln's room again, where they find the broken family portrait and Luna realises that maybe he ran away because of them. (Meanwhile, the real Lincoln is wondering why they didn't cotton onto that idea sooner). Fanfic Lily (nonverbally) reveals that she was the one who broke the TV remote (which is inexplicably in Lincoln's room).

Meanwhile, fanfic Lincoln and Ronnie Anne are getting ready for bed, having just watched a (boring) movie. He overhears his sisters crying over the computer and realises they do miss him. The next morning, fanfic Bobby reveals Lincoln to the girls.

He comes home, and they apologise, but he's still sore at them. A day later, Rita and Lynn Sr. arrive and their daughters fill them in on the details. Then, the fanfic sisters go upstairs to discuss the matter and observe that Lincoln has forgiven Lily.

Fanfic Lynn takes Lincoln for a bike ride and he falls off his bike. He's surprised she cares about him (which offends the real Lynn) and they get back on their bikes. The next day, a boy starts to bully Lincoln but gets beat up by... the twins? When they get home, Lisa notices an ad for a chess tournament at school, so she decides to teach Lincoln to play chess so he can enter. She does, and he wins.

Fanfic Luan shows Lincoln a video of her being scared by Lucy's vampire suit, Lucy writes a poem about him, and Leni admits she was a hypocrite and reveals that she too was embarrassed at a convention as a kid. Fanfic Lori and Luna apologise again, and the latter sings.

Finally, fanfic Lincoln seems to have forgiven his sisters, but when they start having an insult match and involve him in it, he gets mad at them all over again. Lisa, feeling bad, goes to bed, but then some of her liquid goes onto her lamp's cord and starts a fire. Everyone works to save everyone else and evacuate, but Lincoln ends up trapped in the burning house. His older sisters rescue him but he's unconscious. His sisters try to wake him up, while the real siblings start to cry, but thankfully, story Lincoln wakes up.

The fanfic Louds then split up while their house is being repaired: the oldest three sisters with the Santiagos, Luan, Lynn, Lisa, Lily, and the parents with Pop-Pop, and Lucy, Lincoln, and the twins at the McBride house.

When they arrive back, they find that Lori's perfume, the clothes Leni designed, Luna's music equipment, Mr. Coconuts, Lynn's sports balls, Lucy's poetry book, Lola's pageant clothes, Lisa's experiments, Lily's blankie, and Lincoln's comics, Bun-Bun, and a few of his clothes have been burnt up and Izzy and El Diablo are nowhere to be seen. The family is sad, but happy that they're all still alive, and everyone watches a movie.

With that, the fanfic is done, and the Loud kids go out to Burpin' Burger to cheer themselves up.

This episode provides examples of

  • Adaptational Dumbass: Fanfic Lynn Sr. and Rita somehow didn't notice their daughters teasing Lincoln in Vanzilla, or Lincoln crying.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: The sisters in the fanfic are more relentless with their teasing than in canon, continuing to tease Lincoln even when he's crying.
  • Baby See, Baby Do: When Lola says, "No! Bad Lisa!", Lily echoes back, "Ba Wisa!".
  • "Balls" Gag: Lynn snickers when her fanfic counterpart says, "My balls are gone!".
  • Big "WHAT?!": All of the sisters except Lucy shout, "WHAT?!" upon finding out that it was Lucy who clogged the toilet.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The fanfic ends with several of the Loud kids' belongings burnt up and Izzy and El Diablo unaccounted for, but everyone's happy to be alive.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: When Luan asks Lily to say, "girls", she blows a raspberry instead.
  • Character Exaggeration: Sure, the sisters tease Lincoln a lot, but in the fanfic, they keep doing it while he's crying and blame him without proof for breaking the remote.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The sisters end up finding out the truth about Lucy clogging the toilet in "Sleuth or Consequences?".
    • Lincoln remembers Episode One, where in the story they read, he was out-of-character for crying, but states that in this story, he has reason to cry.
    • Lori mentions that the only time Bobby lied to her was telling her he liked her Shoddy Shindig in "Party Down".
    • Lincoln mentions the girls tiring Clyde's dads out, which happened in "Attention Deficit".
    • The fanfic sisters feel guilty about fighting over money (in "It's a Loud, Loud, Loud, Loud House"), which the real siblings point out is strange because that conflict was resolved. Lori and Lincoln also argue about who was in the wrong during the events of "Sound of Silence".
  • Copycat Mockery:
    • Lincoln mockingly imitates his fanfic sisters for not realising how they could've offended fanfic Lincoln.
    • When Lori says that they wouldn't have enough time to list Lincoln's dumb choices, he later teasingly parrots it by saying that he wouldn't have enough time to list the sisters' bad actions to him.
  • Death Glare:
    • Lana glares at Lucy for not admitting it was she who clogged the toilet earlier.
    • Luna gives Luan a dirty look for making a joke in a serious situation.
    • Some of the sisters glare at Lily when fanfic Lincoln stops being mad at her story counterpart early.
  • Delayed Reaction: The fanfic sisters don't realise how mean they've been to Lincoln until after he runs away.
  • Denied Food as Punishment: On being told fanfic Lincoln broke the remote, Lynn Sr. makes him go to bed without dessert.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Fanfic Lana and Lola are referred to in the narration as "the two twins" several times.
  • Embarrassment Plot: The catalyst for fanfic Lincoln's bad day was him being embarrassed at the convention falling into the comics.
  • Entertainment Above Their Age: When Lucy makes a reference to Five Nights at Freddy's, Lincoln responds that maybe they should monitor her Internet use more closely.
  • Everybody Cries:
    • When the fanfic sisters realise how mean they've been, they all start crying (downplayed, as Lucy only cries a few tears).
    • All of fanfic Lincoln's sisters cry when he's unconscious and they're scared for his life, as does the real Lincoln and all his sisters.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • The girls point out that while they may tease Lincoln a lot, they wouldn't keep teasing him if he cried about it.
    • Lola might blame Lincoln for doing things without knowing for sure, but she always bases her blame on some evidence (unlike fanfic Lola who just blames Lincoln for breaking the remote willy-nilly). Like when she blamed him for clogging the toilet, it was because he did do it lots of times before.
    • Lucy may like sad stories, but even she finds the end of Part One too sad.
    • Lynn admits to having pantsed, punched, and thrown mud at Lincoln, but points out that she cares about his safety and would never seriously injure him.
  • Facepalm:
    • Lincoln facepalms when the fanfic sisters (except Luna) don't realise how they could've offended Lincoln.
    • Fanfic Lincoln facepalms when Clyde wants Lori to stay with him.
  • Impromptu Campfire Cookout: Discussed when Lori jokingly claims that fanfic Lincoln's parents and sisters are around their housefire roasting marshmallows.
  • Instant Humiliation: Just Add YouTube!: Fanfic Luan films Lincoln crashing into the comic books at the convention and puts it on YouTube.
  • Insult Backfire:
    • Lynn insults Lucy for looking like a vampire, which makes her proud.
    • When the fanfic Loud kids are having an insult match, Luna is insulted for her loudness, which the real Luna is proud of.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: When fanfic Lola is insulted for her shouting, the real Lola shouts that she doesn't shout that often.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: The fanfic sisters groan at Luan's "ground beef" pun.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The fanfic sisters all cry upon realising how mean they've been to Lincoln.
  • National Stereotypes: Luan puns on the idea that Australians call everybody "mate" by joking that the prize for an Australian chess tournament is a "check, mate".
  • Nature Tinkling: When the fanfic twins don't let Lincoln go to the bathroom, Lana tells him to just go outside. This grosses out several of the siblings reading it, including Lori, but Lana says that she does it all the time.
  • Not Afraid to Die: Lucy claims that death isn't bad, but rather "a natural, beautiful part of the cycle of life."
  • Not Hyperbole: Lucy says that Lincoln's joke about her having powers was "so funny she forgot how to laugh". Then, it turns out that she really did forget.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Lisa is too sad to call out the author for the comma splice when fanfic Lincoln cries to Bobby and Ronnie Anne.
    • When Lincoln points out that fanfic Ronnie Anne is not roughhousing with him, Lana suggests that it's because Lincoln is crying and she might feel the situation is too serious.
  • Out of Character:
    • Fanfic Lynn says, "Look who's going to the Ace Savvy convention!" as an "insult". The real Lynn would've been able to think up a better insult.
    • The fanfic sisters are all meaner than in canon, but one noteworthy part of this is Luan putting the video of fic Lincoln's mistake on YouTube without getting his permission, even though she has a rule against doing so.
    • Fanfic Bobby agrees to lie to Lori, something which Bobby canonically wouldn't do.
    • A minor one, but fanfic Lincoln becomes a bit dramatic when he describes his sisters' meanness as a "fate worse than death".
    • Fanfic Lola pantses the bully, which is a bit crass for her and seems more like something Lana would do.
  • Pants-Pulling Prank: Fanfic Lola pantses the bully to humiliate him.
  • Plot Hole:
    • The sisters think fanfic Lincoln broke the remote on purpose because he was mad that the twins made him go to the toilet outside, but he didn't watch TV after then, and if he did break the remote, he wouldn't have been able to use it either.
    • If fanfic Lily can point to herself and admit she broke the TV remote, why didn't she do it sooner? Also, why was the remote in Lincoln's room?
  • Pun:
    • Luan makes the "more clogs than a Dutch shoe factory" joke again...
    • She then tells Lincoln he's just as "loud" as his sisters...
    • And then later, she says that she can't "picture" her and her sisters not noticing the broken family portrait.
    • Still later, she makes a joke "What prize do you get for winning an Australian chess tournament? A check, mate!".
    • Finally, at the end, she makes the old "me three" joke.
  • The Runaway: Fanfic Lincoln decides to run away to the Santiagos' after his sisters relentlessly tease him.
  • Say My Name:
    • Fanfic Lori shouts, "LINCOLN!" when she thinks he took the remote and then later when she's looking for him during the fire.
    • Luna, Lincoln, Lucy, and Lisa all shout, "LUAN!" when she tries to make the "umbrella building" joke.
    • The fanfic sisters shout, "LINCOLN!!!" when they see him again after he runs away.
    • Fanfic Lincoln says, "Lisa!" upon seeing her unconscious.
    • Fanfic Luna shouts, "Oh no! LINCOLN!" when he's unconscious.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Luna quotes "Splish Splash" by saying the "Good Golly, Miss Molly!" lyric.
    • Leni went through a Sailor Moon phase when she was eight.
  • Smart Ball: Leni is the first one to realise that Lily's "men" is a mispronunciation of "mean".
  • Smart People Play Chess: Fanfic Lisa has been playing chess since she was two, and the real Lisa has been playing chess since she was one. To be precise, one year and eight months, or 20 months old.
  • Take That!: When fanfic Lincoln and Ronnie Anne are bored to sleep by a movie, Luan bets it was 2001: A Space Odyssey.
  • Thin-Skinned Bully: The bully in the fanfic runs away crying after being embarrassed by two six-year-olds.
  • Uncertain Doom: Izzy and El Diablo are unaccounted for after the fire in the fanfic (because apparently only Charles, Cliff, Geo, and Walt were carried out), so it's unknown if they died or not. Thankfully, at least, Lana's other pets, plus Fangs and Gary must be accounted for, or else they would've been mentioned, but it's still unknown what happened to the reptiles.
  • Underwear of Power: Fanfic Lola teases Lincoln for liking superheroes who wear their "underwear on the outside". Lincoln critiques this for being an old joke.
  • You Are Grounded!: Fanfic Lynn Sr. grounds Lincoln for supposedly breaking the remote and then later grounds the fanfic sisters for being mean to their brother.
