Leslie thinks she has won Woman of the Year from the Indiana Organization of Women, but the award turns out to be for Ron. Ron thinks awards are stupid, and he plans to turn down the award and recommend Leslie for the award instead. But he first intends to teach her a lesson about the uselessness of awards by teasing her for a bit.

Tom wants to invest in the Snakehole Lounge and tries to raise enough money to buy one share. He approaches Jean-Ralphio. Tom has $4,000, and Jean-Ralphio can add $5,000. But Tom still needs $1,000.

Leslie is upset, not just because Ron won the award, but because the award specifically mentions a project that she worked on. Mark suggests she talk to Ron. However, Ron is still trying to teach her a lesson. Leslie decides that Ron can do her work since he's the one getting credit for it.

Andy is currently living with one of his band mates, and both of them are frustrated with living with each other. April suggests that Andy get his own place and offers to help him look for an apartment. They look at an apartment that is close to April's home, and she suggests that they could carpool.

Tom invites several co-workers to invest with him. The only one to show interest is Donna, and she asks to meet Jean-Ralphio. After meeting him, Donna refuses to participate.

Ron finally lets Leslie know that he has recommended her for the award. Leslie and Ron meet with Elise Yarktin of the IOW. She refuses to allow the award to go to Leslie. She explains that they chose a man this year for "Woman of the Year" because the media ignores them when they choose a woman. Leslie wants Ron to accept the award and criticize it in his acceptance speech.

Tom laments his lack of funds to Andy, who offers to put up the remaining $1,000 instead of finding an apartment. April is disappointed but impressed by Andy's generosity.

During his acceptance speech, instead of criticizing the award, Ron instead presents it to Leslie. She in turn presents it back to him. Back in the office, Ron and Leslie throw the award in the trash. Leslie later retrieves it.

When Tom goes to "his" nightclub, he is surprised to see Donna there. She has bought three shares.

Tropes

  • Foreshadowing: Tom lists some of the entrepreneurial projects he'd like to do. One of them is a restaurant called Tom's Bistro. In season 6, Tom actually opens a restaurant called Tom's Bistro.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Leslie basically calls sexism when the girls' soccer team doesn't have a practice time but the boys' team does. She assumes that the male coach is the coach of the boys' team and the female coach is the coach of the girls' team. Both coaches call her out on her own sexism after it's revealed to be the other way around.
  • Straw Feminist: Played for Laughs with Leslie, who is desperate for the eponymous award. She realizes about halfway through that the organization is actually quite sexist, and Ron really is a feminist.
