Go To

With the help of One, Paperinik decides to hunt the hacker who is looting database after database. However, he seems to be too powerful even for the incredible A.I., making Donald suspicious. Meanwhile, a duck from a monastery in the middle of Asia is coming back to Duckburg to take care of some old affairs...

Tropes Present In This Issue:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Paperinik is afraid this is happening to One. In truth it is Two, his backup system, that has gone nuts.
  • All Monks Know Kung-Fu: While he was meditating to learn and become a better person, Everett Ducklair picked up also some neat "mystical martial arts".
  • Chekhov's Gun: The electronic key One gives to Paperinik.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience:The evil Two is red, in contrast the good One that is green.
  • Continuity Nod: The events of "Shadow on Venus" are referenced. Paperinik thinks that the efforts of locating the Evronian cruiser messed up One.
  • Covers Always Spoil: As Banker put it:
"You... you weren't trying to make the reveal a surprise, were you?"
  • Deep-Immersion Gaming/Unusual User Interface/Cyberspace: The Ducklair Tower has a machine that allows people to enter directly in the programs. However the immersion is so deep that, if anything happens to the cyberbody while the safeties are off, it also happens to the real body.
  • Evil Redhead: Two is literally one.
  • Evil Twin: Red Two to green One.
  • Genius Loci: When One is apparently deactivated,Two can take this role for the Ducklair Tower.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Spending years as a backup computer and never being able to fully function caused Two to develop a great hatred and an unstable mind.
  • In the Hood: Everett Ducklair spends quite some time like this.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Two, Two, Two. Realizing Paperinik's suspects towards One, he confirms them by using the same tricks One suggested and creating an hologram of his face, then manipulates him in shutting One down, the only creature on Earth able to stop him. Well, except for Everett Ducklair, but he thought he was on the other side of the world.
  • Multitasked Conversation: Since One is desperately trying to prevent Paperinik and Everett from meeting, he keeps on jumping from one to the other. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Override Command: Everett has a "vocal password" that can force Two to delete himself.
  • Playing Possum: Good old One does this to allure their real enemy in the open.
  • Skeleton Key: One gives Paperinik an electronic key that opens all the doors of the tower. He later use it to escape Two's trap.
  • Take Over the World: Crazy A.I. Two's ultimate plan, starting with virtual reality before conquering the real one.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Two actually manages to play this straight and to avert it: he simply put Paperinik in a closed room, saying he would later "Think of something fun to do to you", but as soon as he captured Everett Ducklair he points a gun to his head and tries to pull the trigger. Fridge Brilliance kicks in when you realize it's because he considers him a much bigger threat.
  • Worf Had the Flu: The first theory of Paperinik on how the superhacker was able to temporarely incapacitate One: he trought that the last adventure caused too much fatigue to the A.I.
