Recap / Paperinik New Adventures S 1 E 41 In The Fog

Go To

In a Duckburg immersed in the fog, uncle Scrooge calls Donald to clean up the gargoyles on the top of Ducklair tower. After a little bumbling, One takes care of it with an automatic sistem. Meanwhile, many inhabitants of the city are taking a liking towards a so-called wizard, much to One's disgust. However he may be much more than an entertainer...

Tropes Present In This Issue:

  • Alternate Universe: One full of demons. We see very little of it.
  • And I Must Scream: Ahrimadz remains stuck between our dimension and the demons' one. However the Prior reveals he may one day return.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Really, One? Is magic so much more difficult to accept that what you experience daily? Admittedly, they have some scientific base to them, but still...
  • Attack of the Monster Appendage: All we see of the demons are shadowy black hands with four clawed fingers.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Paperinik and One are unable to stop Ahrimadz, Everett Ducklair comes to their rescue. Then when he is in trouble, the superior monks of his monastery show up to help.
  • Book Dumb: When Ahrimadz starts to complain about the invasion of Paperinik's culture, the masked hero has this to say:
"My culture? Hey, I graduated from elementary school only due to seniority!"
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Ahrimadz can do this to people, either with his fog or directly through eye contact. Only people trained in psychic powers can resist this.
  • Continuity Nod: One references his explanation on where he gets his energy from, something he explained in "Silicon", and Paperinik remembers his training with Ducklair from "Missing".
  • Cultural Invasion: Ahrimadz accuses American culture of this and, as shown in flashblacks, he isn't without reason.
  • Disney Death: One is apparently destroyed by one of the demons, but it turns out "I disconnected myself just in time!"
  • Disproportionate Retribution: While it's not good that many of the things that were important for Ahrimadz's country were lost or forgotten due to American culture, trying to invade the world with hellish minions from another dimension is taking it too far.
  • Evil Sorcerer: Ahrimadz, who plans to open a portal to another dimension to unleash an horde of demonic creatures over the world. On the other hand, it's implied he wasn't evil when he learnt magic.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Ahrimadz is usually calm, polite and quite the charmer... while he is trying to invade the world with demonic forces.
  • Fog of Doom: Ahrimadz casts a thick fog that can brainwash people and hinder his enemies.
  • Guyliner: Possibly to underline his link with sorcery, Ahrimazd has black lips. He had them since infancy, apparently.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In the end Ahrimadz is dragged by a demon in its dimension while he was trying to reopen the portal.
  • In the Back: As Paperink finds out, Ahrimazd tends to use his magic to attack from behind.
  • MacGuffin: The gargoyles Everett Ducklair installed on the top of his tower are actually here to stop demonic forces from invading Earth from a different reality. Apparently, several more of these decorations from around the world serve the exact same purpose. So it is a fight to keep them in their place.
  • Magic Vs Science: One, in a cybernetic body, squares off against Ahrimazd, who thinks he's some sort of magical creation and his demons. Unfortunately, One loses badly, and the conflict is solved by Everett and the Abbot.
  • Psychic Block Defense: Thanks to his training with Everett, Paperinik is able to resist Ahrimadz's attempts to mind control him.
  • Revenge:Ahrimadz feels resentment towards the Western world for "invading" his country with its culture, making his people largerly abandon theirs and making him a relic of the past.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Paperinik points out that, despite all his great claims about "culture" and "respect", Ahrimadz is just another guy wanting Revenge.
  • The Siege: The Ducklair tower is under attack from a horde of angry citizens, the police and Ahrimadz himself.
  • That Came Out Wrong: After Ahrimadz is dragged in the demon world, Everett makes a rather insensitive comment about him. He quickly corrects himself.
  • That Man Is Dead: In order to become the new Mohuad, Ahrimadz had to renounce to his old name as a kid. It was Parvi,if anyone is interested.
  • Took a Level in Badass:Realizing how high the stakes are this time, One builds a powerful and heavily armed body for himself to fight alongside Paperinik. Unfortunatly, it is no match for the magic powers of Ahrimadz or the demons.
  • Villain Has a Point: Ahrimadz it motivated by resentment of western (and specifically American) culture after he saw the results of colonization in his native country first-hand. Flashbacks shows that he very much has a point.
  • The Worf Effect: One's new and powerful body is totally useless against Ahrimadz and is easily destroyed by a demon.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Due to the effects of the fog, Paperinik is a much less formidable fighter than usual. Even One sounds incredulous:
"You crunch alien warriors like candies but you need help against four municipal employees?"
  • You Have Failed Me: Implied, as the demons try to snatch Ahrimazd as the portal closes and the Abbot mentions that those creatures are "vindicative".
