Nicky learns that she's going to face up to seventy years in prison if she doesn't name Red as the person who lured Piscatella into the prison with the intent of harming or even killing him while Piper is finally reunited with Alex, who had to stay in the medical bay due to complications after surgery on her broken arm. Taystee is informed that she's being blamed for Piscatella's death and she seeks Caputo's help to clear her name. The former Litchfield guards are drawn into the Max guards 'Fantasy Inmate' game where they pick certain inmates and receive points based on what they happen to do while in prison; ranging from having sex to actually murdering another prisoner.
Outside of the prison, Pennsatucky, Coates and Dixon continue to have fun on their road trip, with Dixon stepping in when a disguised Pennsatucky and Coates are accused of being 'faggots' while Aleida struggles to find a job and ends up in a MLM scheme because no-where else will hire her due to her criminal record. She meets CO Hopper when she's trying to sell outside of the prison and he takes a clear interest in her.
Nicky's troubled childhood is revealed during flashbacks when both of her parents try and make her upcoming bat mitzvah about them rather than her.
This episode provides examples of the following tropes:
- Adorably Precocious Child: Nicky as a preteen is mature beyond her years but is incredibly adorable at the same time, especially with her trademark wild hair.
- Call-Back: Pennsatucky is very talented at a shooting game at the fair, a nod to the crime that saw her being imprisoned in the first place when she shot a nurse.
- Curly Hair Is Ugly: Nicky's mother insists that Nicky straightens her wild, curly hair so she'll look smarter at her bat mitzvah.
- Faking Amnesia: Alex briefly does this to Piper when they're reunited.Alex: I'm gay?!
- Fantasy Sports: Fantasy Inmate is a take on this but with inmates rather than athletes and points are scored for various actions that they do while in prison.
- Get-Rich-Quick Scheme: Aleida is sucked into a multi-level-marketing scheme called 'Nutri-Herbal' because she can't find employment anywhere else due to her criminal record.
- Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Pennsatucky wins an enormous stuffed teddy bear that she promptly names 'Baby Dix' as it looks remarkably like Dixon.
- Mistaken for Gay: A group of thugs think that Pennsatucky and Dixon are a gay couple as the very small and petite Pennsatucky is dressed in traditionally male clothing.
- Parental Neglect: Nicky's mother is more concerned about the dress she's going to wear for Nicky's bat mitzvah and how she comes across in Nicky's speech than the event itself, and her father is far more interested in his current partner than his own daughter. Nicky calls them out during her speech and the aftermath sees her parents arguing with one another who is having Nicky stay with them; neither of them want her.
- Start of Darkness: Daya starts taking oxy for the pain she's left in when the guards keep manhandling her, which is the start of her becoming a full fledged drug addict.
- Sweet Polly Oliver: Pennsatucky ends up looking like a young man due to her small stature, traditionally masculine clothes and the baseball cap covering her face.
- Title Drop: Nicky is the talking ass, as she mentions in her speech at her bat mitzvahYoung!Nicky: The thing is, I actually like this Torah portion because I'm the ass, and I can finally talk. So here's what I wanna know: why is it so important to God that you honour your mother and father when they really don't give a shit about you?
