As Issei drives Hiroshi, Isuzu, Kaname, and Mana to the camp site, he explains that in recent years Jōga's residential district has expanded enormously, though there are still rural areas left on the outskirts. Mana comments on the good weather, which Isuzu remarks is due to her good karma, causing Hiroshi and Kaname to tease her. Watching Isuzu in the rearview mirror, Hiroshi has a flashback to her attempt to seduce him, then notices an air freshener containing hassaku juice.

Cue opening theme.

Once at the camp site, Isuzu tries to get Hiroshi to lighten up, playfully dragging him into the river. Issei interrupts the moment by passing them some fishing rods and asking them to catch lunch. To Hiroshi's irritation, Isuzu and Kaname catch more fish than him. Mana, peeling carrots with Issei, comments that he can be stubborn at times. As Isuzu tells him to give up and join them, Hiroshi gets a strong pull on his line... only for it to be a crushed pop can.

As he and Kaname set up the picnic blanket, Hiroshi comments that he hasn't seen Mana be so happy in a long time. Kaname remarks that the Jōga Wolves used to live in the mountainous outskirts of the town, and ominously remarks that she sometimes gets the feeling she's being held captive in Jōga by the surrounding wilderness. She then pokes fun at Hiroshi's gloomy reaction, stating she was just quoting a poem. Noticing Isuzu - who had been setting up the barbecue - has disappeared, Hiroshi volunteers to go look for her. Coming across her clothes strewn across a rock, Hiroshi is mortified when Isuzu approaches him in her school swimsuit and starts flirting with him. Kaname arrives, also in her swimsuit, and Isuzu tries to drag him into the river to play. Her antics end up soaking him, but her desperate apology turns out to be another flirtatious joke.

Dressed in dry clothes borrowed from Issei and watching Isuzu and Kaname play in the river, Hiroshi notices a group of fishermen sternly glaring at him from upstream. When Isuzu asks what's wrong, Hiroshi assures her that nothing's the matter, glancing at the fishermen, who are no longer looking at him. As Issei cooks lunch, Hiroshi finds a bag of hassaku in the cooler and asks if they're going to be roasted for desert. When Isuzu decries such a blasphemous action, Hiroshi points out she drew her face on one of them.

After lunch, Hiroshi notes how happy Mana seems around Issei. Issei asks if Hiroshi's clothes are dry, and Hiroshi says he'll wash the sweater Issei leant him before returning it. Issei says there's no need to wash it since he doesn't want to get rid of Hiroshi's scent, creeping him out. Isuzu calls her brother out on saying weird things. Issei laughs it off as a joke, but Isuzu is still irritated, staking her own claim on Hiroshi's clothes.

As they drive home in the evening, Hiroshi and Issei talk while the girls sleep in the back seat. Hiroshi thanks Issei for the fun day, and Issei states he had fun himself, saying he wants to thank Hiroshi while grabbing his hand. Hiroshi is initially alarmed, but passes it off as another of Issei's weird jokes.

That evening, Issei sits alone in his room, sniffing Hiroshi's sweater. In the Kuzumis' apartment, Mana narrates the events of the trip to their father, berating Hiroshi for being unable to catch even a single fish. At school the next day, Hiroshi has come down with a cold, to Isuzu's consternation. Kaname suggests he pay a visit to the Jōga Medicinal Treatment Center, the local hospital. Isuzu volunteers to go with him, but Hiroshi says he doesn't want to get her sick too. Once he leaves, Kaname chides Isuzu for being so overprotective of him.

At the Center, Hiroshi waits for an appointment, not realizing he's been followed by Issei. The head doctor, Shigetsu Kushinada, introduces himself as Nemuru's uncle and says he's heard a lot about Hiroshi from his niece, offhandedly remarking that she called him a "weird kid". Apologizing for the insult, Dr. Kushinada diagnoses Hiroshi with a cold and issues a prescription, but recommends running some blood tests to be sure. As Hiroshi leaves the hospital, he runs into Issei, who offers to drive him home. Dr. Kushinada meets with a bespectacled man named Sakaki, who claims to be the new CEO of the Bio Technolyze Drug Manufacturing company. Sakaki comments his company is planning on beginning the manufacturing of a new line of medications, and he thought Dr. Kushinada would be interested.

Driving home, Hiroshi asks Issei why he was at the hospital, and Issei says he stopped by to pick up some medication. Hiroshi asks if Issei is alright, and Issei remarks how nice it is that Hiroshi is concerned about him before abruptly asking if he's kissed Isuzu yet. When Hiroshi expresses confusion, Issei suggests that Hiroshi isn't interested in girls given that he ignores Isuzu's advances. He abruptly hits the breaks, and Hiroshi notes they've gone the wrong way. Issei asks if he has anything important to do at home, and when Hiroshi says no, Issei admits his offer to drive Hiroshi home was just a ploy to get him alone. His eyes glowing red, Issei attempts to forcibly kiss a terrified Hiroshi, who accidentally kicks the hassaku air freshener while struggling to get away. The air freshener breaks and the smell of the hassaku juice brings Issei back to his senses. Issei composes himself and passes his attack off as a practical joke, dropping Hiroshi off at his home. Pulling over, Issei takes out a sheet of pills from a bag and swallows one.

In the Kushinada mansion in Old Jōga, Dr. Kushinada meets with Nemuru and tells her Hiroshi was exactly as she described him. He then states Hiroshi picked a bad time to come to Jōga, what with the hassaku harvest being so poor. He then tells Nemuru that he is counting on her. Mana barges into Hiroshi's bedroom and throws her stuffed rabbit-frog at Hiroshi, complaining about how unfair it was that he got a ride home with Issei and she didn't. Hiroshi snaps back at her, but she settles the argument by lobbing her stuffy at him a second time. As it rains, the masked scythe-wielding woman and her acolytes race through the streets, illuminated by the blood-red moon.

The next morning, Hiroshi notes his fever's broken, but Mana advises him to take his medicine. Isuzu greets them, noting Hiroshi seems to be feeling better, but Hiroshi is unnerved to see Issei watching them. As they depart, Issei takes the sweater Hiroshi had been wearing and sniffs it.

Cue end credits.

  • Attempted Rape: Issei attempts a Forceful Kiss onto Hiroshi in a manner evocative of this.
  • Celibate Hero: Hiroshi's exemplifying of this trope gets called out by Issei, who suggests that he's gay due to his avoidance of women.
  • Fishing for Sole: Hiroshi catches a crushed pop can while trying to fish.
  • Genki Girl: Isuzu deliberately tries to invoke being a Manic Pixie Dream Girl to bring Hiroshi out of his timid shell.
  • Gratuitous English: When Isuzu disembarks from Issei's car, she shouts "Yahoo! Barbecue paradise!"
  • The Grovel: Isuzu invokes this after she soaks Hiroshi, crawling towards him on her hands and knees begging for him to forgive her. It turns out to be a seduction attempt, though.
  • Homoerotic Subtext: This episode outright drops the subtext, as Issei spends much of the first half staring at Hiroshi, and comments he doesn't want Hiroshi to wash the sweater he borrowed so as to not get rid of his scent. On the drive home he makes a number of suggestive comments and tries to grab Hiroshi's hand. He keeps the sweater and sniffs it, follows Hiroshi to the hospital, and when driving him home outright attempts to assault him.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Isuzu calls roasting the hassaku oranges blasphemy, Hiroshi points out she drew her face on one of them and asks how that doesn't count as blasphemy.
  • "Just Joking" Justification:
    • When Isuzu apologizes for soaking Hiroshi, she starts pulling down the front of her swimsuit until he can see her cleavage, then reveals she was just teasing him and asks if he really though she'd show him her breasts. At school the next day, when she sees he's come down with a cold as a result of her antics, she starts untying the ribbon on her school uniform.
    • Issei and Isuzu pass his comment about wanting to enjoy Hiroshi's scent off as a joke, but Hiroshi is still creeped out.
  • Luminescent Blush: When Hiroshi notices just how cute Isuzu looks playing around in the river, his face starts turning beet red. When he comes across her clothes folded on a rock, and when she starts pulling down the front of her swimsuit he's so embarrassed he almost has an aneurysm.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Issei suggests Hiroshi is homosexual due to him shying away from Isuzu's flirtations.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: Isuzu jokingly calls Hiroshi a pervert when he comes across her clothes and splashes him.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Issei's eyes glow red when he succumbs to his bestial side and tries to force himself on Hiroshi.
  • Smells Sexy: Issei makes a number of comments about enjoying Hiroshi's scent, and in the evening he gets off sniffing Hiroshi's sweater.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Issei turns into one over the course of the episode, displaying increasingly yandere tendencies towards Hiroshi.
  • The Tease: Isuzu ramps up her seduction efforts by showcasing her school swimsuit and even flashing Hiroshi a little cleavage.
