Recap / Olimars Alimony Mother

Go To

The chapter begins with the party aboard the Comet Observatory, which is on its way toward Eagleland. Olimar's kids complain that they miss their mother, prompting Olimar to reveal to them that they're getting a divorce. The kids don't take it well.

The group arrives at Eagleland, and lands in Fourside. While in the city they encounter Brittany in a cafe, hanging out with Kumatora. The latter has taught the former offensive PSI. The group makes their way to Twoson, where they find and recruit Boney. They also encounter the wreckage of the S.S. Drake. After a battle against Everdred, they squeeze information concerning Alph's whereabouts out of the sketchy man and head to Summers.

The party decides to relax on the beach, but immediately pay for it when Charlie is dragged into the murky depths by a large tentacle. The group mourns Charlie and eats some magic cake, which informs that the Alph is located inside the nearby Club Stoic. Unfortunately membership is extremely exclusive; the party's only path to getting inside is helping deal with the sea monster problem that plagues the waters outside Summers. The group joins up with Flavio and sets sail aboard the S.S. Flavion. They discover the wreckage of the Gangplank Galleon, with Louie apparently having crashed the ship. Soon after they encounter Gooper Blooper, which is eventually defeated, revealing Charlie to have been surviving inside of it.

Having killed the Blooper, the group is given access to Club Stoic(along with several bars of gold). Inside they find Alph, who is preoccupied with staring at the Porky-possessing Absolutely Safe Capsule along with the other club members. Alph and the other clubgoers surround Olimar; Alph is revealed to be the Wraith, which promptly swallows Olimar and shifts form into that of the Absolutely Safe Capsule, trapping Olimar inside.

While unconscious, Olimar is sent to a dreamlike world known as Magicant. He discovers a mace with the ability to change form to resemble the various Pikmin varieties, granting Olimar powers in line with the Pikmin it imitates. Olimar experiences a variety of trials with manifestations of his subconscious as he becomes accustomed to the weapon, dubbed the Pikmace.

While Olimar sleeps, the rest of the party makes their way to Threed in search of a way to free Olimar from his prison. They head to Threed, which is overrun by ghosts and being ruled over by King Boo, who resides within the closed-off hotel. The group explores Threed, engaging in various events that include battling the Dead Hand, finding Jeff in a trash can, and fighting Lemmy(who turns out to be plasm) and Chauncey. The boss gauntlet continues when they are forced to deal with Boolossus, whose defeat allows them to enter King Boo's lair. They encounter a portal inside, but are distracted from it when they hear a noise from outside. It turns out to be Plasm Ridley, who devours Charlie and pursues the party into the portal.

The party is transported into a dimension in which they must face off with King Boo, who detects plasm amongst the party, destroying Jeff and revealing him to be plasm. The party largely lets King Boo and Plasm Ridley take themselves out; King Boo is sucked into K. Rool's blunderbuss while Plasm Ridley flees. The group decides that Dr. Andonuts is their best bet to deal with the Absolutely Safe Plasm, and so they journey to Winters in order to see him. They learn that the plasm reacts negatively to Olimar's loved ones. The party realizes that they need Olimar's entire family present in order to free him.

  • Badass in Distress: Olimar is taken hostage by the Plasm Wraith once again.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Brittany, particularly when she interacts with Charlie.
  • Disney Death: When Charlie is eaten by Gooper Blooper. Not so much when he's eaten by Plasm Ridley.
  • Divide and Conquer: The party's strategy to dealing with having to face off against both King Boo and Plasm Ridley.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The President and K. Rool plotting to overthrow Olimar as leader for the monies isn't particularly strange, but Falcon? May be justified in that Olimar and Falcon hadn't quite had as much bonding time by this point. There's also still a world in which money matters left for Falcon to care about.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Dead Hand.
  • Enfant Terrible: Chauncey.
  • GiantSquid: Gooper Blooper.
  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: Chauncey transports the party to a dimension consisting solely of a giant crib in which he subjects them to violence at the hands of giant bouncing balls and flying rocking horses for the sake of his own amusement.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: The kids' reaction to Boney.
  • It's All My Fault: The kids' reaction to the news that their parents are getting a divorce. It doesn't last.
  • Look What I Can Do Now!: In the time she was separated from the group, Brittany learned to employ the powers of fire, ice, thunder, and earth.
  • New-Age Retro Hippie: The group saves Boney from a foe that is literally called the New Age Retro Hippie.
  • Parental Substitute: Rosalina serves as this to Olimar's kids, at least until Marlia actually shows up in-person.
  • Sea Monster: The Blooper.
  • Swallowed Whole:
    • Charlie's fate at the hands of the Blooper. Fortunately he's fine.
    • Charlie's fate at the hands of Plasm Ridley. Unfortunately he's not fine.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • The kids' feelings about their parents getting divorced aren't really touched on after this chapter.
    • The President, K. Rool, and Falcon get together and discuss their openness to defecting(possibly even staging a mutiny) against Olimar due to the lack of treasure they've gotten. It goes nowhere.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Brittany actually learned some combat abilities.
  • Wasn't That Fun?: The kids' reaction to getting launched through the Launch Star, as well as their general reaction to their situation.
  • What Could Have Been: As was made clear, the Alimoners had their pick of one Mother character to permanently recruit, and some of the options passed over in favor of Boney included Kumatora and Everdred.
