Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S 1 E 25 T.K.O.

Go To

Searching for power and tired of being talked down to, K.O. accepts the help of a shady robed man who calls himself the Shadowy Figure; the other heroes band together to save the plaza... and K.O. from a new menace that's been unleashed from within him.

Tropes:

  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: K.O defeats T.K.O. within his mind, eventually using the focus lessons from earlier to defeat him.
  • Can't Catch Up: The start of the episode's conflict is K.O.'s frustration with his lack of progress at becoming a hero and catching up to Enid and Rad.
  • Diagonal Cut: How T.K.O. defeats Darrell.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Averted. T.K.O was planning on punching Carol full blast before K.O. stopped him.
  • Evil Mentor: Shadowy Figure pretended to be K.O.'s friend in order to fill him with anger.
  • Gosh Dangit To Heck: T.K.O. says "Shut the front door", a common substitute for "Shut the fuck up". Despite not actually swearing it's exceptionally strong as this is the first time in the series K.O. says anything vulgar.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Part of K.O.'s frustration, and the reason he goes with Shadowy Figure, is how despite Carol telling him about working hard, he feels that he's barely made any progress towards his goal of becoming a great hero. His first attempt's failure is a major part of what actually gets him angry enough to unleash T.K.O.
K.O.: Mom said that hard work will make me strong, but it hasn't! You said getting mad at my friends would work, but it doesn't! NO ONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO WITH ME! I'M GOING TO BE A POWERLESS LITTLE KID FOREVER!
  • Innocently Insensitive: After defeating Darrell the first time, Enid, Rad and Mr. Gar tells K.O. that he's still not strong enough but he's still cute, without meaning to offend him. Unfortunately, Shadowy Figure used their comments to make K.O. angry enough to unleash his Superpowered Evil Side.
  • Meaningful Rename: The powered-up, angry version of K.O. renames himself Turbo K.O., T.K.O. for short.
  • A Minor Kidroduction: The episode begins with Carol trying to teach a younger K.O. how to focus.
  • Never Say "Die": Darrell is cut off in the middle of the last word when saying "prepare to die".
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Darrell's new form makes him a legitimate threat before T.K.O takes him down, and boy is he proud of it.
Darrell: It's cool, though. 'Cause this time… just you wait! I'm going to get the last laugh! Pretty impressive, huh? Lucky for me, though, I won't even need to pull punches. Once this cannon charges up, just one blast, and your precious plaza will be obliterated! Now… prepare to DI-! Gets cut in half by T.K.O.
  • Obviously Evil: Shadowy Figure. He's a tall man with a sinister voice in a black robe originally obscured by shadow that wants to take K.O. somewhere. The only reason K.O. trusted him was because his POW Card said he was level (positive) 8, leading to K.O. to think he's a hero, which turned out to be a glitch (it's actually -8, indicating him as a villain). How this glitch was possible has yet to be explained.
  • The Power of Hate: K.O's new source of power that Shadowy Figure teaches him, leading him to become T.K.O.
  • Purple Is Powerful: T.K.O.'s powers have purple energy compared to K.O.'s blue.
  • Sequel Hook: It's implied that Shadowy Figure isn't done with K.O. yet.
  • Spam Attack: After T.K.O. sends Rad flying out through the roof with an uppercut, he changes targets to Enid with a chuckle... as Enid's quite aware and peeved at the idea of what T.K.O.'s about to attempt.
Enid: You better not...! (T.K.O. starts repeatedly trying to uppercut her as she evades) You little spammer!
  • Teach Him Anger: Shadowy Figure teaches K.O. to harness The Power of Hate.
  • The Unfought: Shadowy Figure, at least for this debut appearance. K.O. doesn't find out for sure that he's evil, and the other main characters don't learn about him at all, until the very end of the episode. It's only in his next appearance that he and K.O. have a direct fight.
  • Wham Episode: The first half-hour episode, as well as the first truly serious episode of the series. We are introduced to Turbo K.O. (T.K.O. for short), and Shadowy Figure. Both end up being game-changers for the series.
  • The Worf Effect: Darrell's huge form is defeated by T.K.O. effortlessly.
