Cole, helped by Vania, escapes from the Dungeons of Shintaro and seeks the help of King Vangelis.


  • Evil All Along: Vangelis is the Skull Sorcerer all along.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Just before Wu, Cole, and Vania burst into the throne room, leading to Vangelis revealing himself as the Skull Sorcerer, Vangelis was talking about having an accountant handle a shipment of Vengestone.
  • Foreshadowing: After revealing himself to be the Skull Sorcerer, Vangelis explains that he’s been forcing the Munce and Geckles to mine Vengestone so he can sell it to an undisclosed buyer. The identity of this buyer will not be revealed until “A Sinister Shadow”.
  • I Have No Son!: After Vangelis reveals himself to be the Skull Sorcerer and sends Sensei Wu and Cole down a trap door, he threatens to disown Vania as his daughter if she chooses to follow Cole and Wu, and he makes good on that threat.
  • President Evil: Vangelis turns out to have been the Skull Sorcerer the whole time.
  • Rebellious Princess: Vania already had a tendency to break her father's rules, but, once he reveals himself as evil, all bets are off, and she takes a pair of wings to follow Cole and Wu.
  • Sickly Green Glow: Cole says that the Skull Sorcerer's skull glowed red. Vangelis reveals himself by correcting him regarding the colour and bringing out the skull.
  • Trap Door: Vangelis has one in his throne room, which he uses to send Master Wu and Cole plummeting to their doom.
