Recap / Ninjago S11E99 "Wasted True Potential"

Go To

Airdate: June 22, 2019

In the wake of their previous season's victory, the ninja have gone soft and Master Wu must remind them of who they truly are.

  • Call-Back: Similar to the pilot episodes when Wu was training Kai, the Ninja are constantly flubbing their attempts in training (This case being a battle with Wu) while Wu notes "Fail." with each screw-up. The soundtrack even uses the same music back from Kai's Failure Montage from way back when.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Wu ends up subjecting all of the Ninja to one of these in a battle to see if they can still fight effectively. Lloyd's only barely able to keep up with him after the other Ninja are taken out, and even then he doesn't last long. The others don't even manage to land a single hit.
  • Dreaming of Things to Come: The episode begins with Zane dreaming of a vision of a fiery Serpentine attacking him in the Monastery and their army invading, and a frozen emperor with an ice dragon freezing everyone in an unknown village, setting everything up for the season.
  • Humiliation Conga: The Ninja end up on the receiving end of this from Wu while he's trying to get the Ninja's awareness and skills back up and running. Ranging from trapdoors, water geyser showers, and electric chickens. And when Wu challenges them to a fight to prove they still have their skills, he effortlessly beats all of them... And then the electric chicken jumps in for one last attack on the Ninja as the episode ends.
  • Killer Rabbit: Fed up with how the Ninja have become lazy, Wu arranges a meeting in where he gives them a lecture on monks who became ninja to combat highly aggressive predators, one of which was in a nearby box. Wu then told them to survive for five minutes with what was inside the box and left after opening it, revealing a chicken. The Ninja assumed it was a joke... until it suddenly revealed its lightning powers and attacked them!
  • Living Crashpad: The end result of Wu versus the ninja is all the ninja stacked on top of Lloyd.
  • Not So Above It All: It's a bad sign that even Nya and Zane have become as distracted and lazy as the others.
  • Punch Catch: Or in this case, kick catch. Nya attempts a flying kick on Wu, and it does not work.
  • Time Skip: Months have passed since the Oni were defeated, and the Ninja have become complacent with no enemies to fight.
  • Toilet Humor: Lloyd is so startled by Wu's admonitions he farts. Which doesn't improve Wu's mood.
  • We Have Become Complacent: After a long period of peace since the Ninja's victory over the Oni, the Ninja have all become quite lazy, only slacking off, playing video games, and using sacred bells as hot tubs. It's to a bad enough point that when Wu puts them up to a battle with him, all of them are barely capable of fighting like they used to and are easily taken down.

Ninja vs Chicken

After a long period of peace since the Ninja's victory over the Oni, the Ninja have all become quite lazy. Fed up, Wu arranged a meeting in the Monastery of Spinjitzu where he gave them a lecture on monks who became ninja to combat highly aggressive predators, one of which was in a nearby box. Wu then told them to survive for five minutes with what was inside the box and left after opening it, revealing a chicken. The Ninja assumed it was a joke... until it suddenly revealed its lightning powers and attacked them!
