Go To

Hen reminisces on the path that has led her to become the firefighter she is today. While recalling the first time she met and became friends with Chimney and Athena.

Tropes featured in the episode:

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Hen.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Hen was this when she first joined the fire department, due her minority status (one of only three female graduates), she had to deal with a sexist Jerkass captain that forced her to cook and clean up after the unit, while the other members of the unit were too afraid of said captain to do anything. The only one who treated her with any open respect was Chimney.
  • Covered in Mud: A mudslide slams into a house during a storm. The daughter, Kiley, gets out, but her mother, Dianne, is trapped.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Captain Vincent Gerrard, Hen's and Chimney's first captain, while a firefighter, is also a sexist Jerkass. He introduces Hen to the unit as their "diversity hire", forces Hen to stay behind to prep dinner and clean up, and when Chimney helps Hen with dishes, he is told by said captain to "stop messing around in home ec. class".
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Hen is shown regularly defied her racist captain to do the right thing.
  • Spotting the Thread: During the road accident, Hen and Chimney notice yellow paint on the road, realizing the limo hit another car. They follow the flowers down the hill to find the yellow car in a lake, allowing them to pull out and rescue a child from the car.
  • Turn of the Millennium: The episode takes place in 2008, with references to seeing Twilight in theaters.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: This episode shows how Hen quit her job as a saleswoman to join the unit and became the tough paramedic of the present.
