"It's the anniversary of the founding of Ponyville — which means it's time for a celebration! With a surprise show in store for Mayor Mare, it's up to Twilight and Apple Bloom to keep the festivities a secret... but that might be hard in a town like Ponyville, where you never know who might show up!"
Tropes:
- Call-Back: Apple Bloom uses a chemistry class to distract Mayor Mare, referring to her experience in potion making with Twilight and Zecora.
- The Cameo: Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are among the ponies gathered for the celebration. Sunset Shimmer likewise makes a surprise appearance much to the shock of Twilight and leaves just as quickly.
- Caustic Critic: Cranky Doodle Donkey rejects almost every audition... save for Big Macintosh's "live wood carving" demonstration.
- Concert Climax: The comic is capped off with a rock concert in the middle of Ponyville, performed by Sunset Shimmer.
- Escort Distraction: Apple Bloom volunteers to do this to keep Mayor Mare distracted while the rest of the ponies get the town ready for the celebration.
- Hero of Another Story: When did Sunset Shimmer find the time to come back to Equestria and join another rock band with two other ponies we've never seen before?
- Hold Your Hippogriffs: Cranky greatly enjoys Sunset and her band's performance, calling out "Enchorse!" instead of "Encore".
- Never My Fault: When Twilight calls out Cranky for immediately rejecting every audition, Cranky claims that it isn't his fault there hasn't been a good performance yet.
- Terrible Interviewees Montage: Twilight and Cranky watch several ponies perform, in hopes of picking one to perform a big show during the celebration.
