Recap / My Hero Academia S2E18 "The Aftermath of Hero Killer Stain"

Go To

Following Stain's arrest, the video of Stain expressing his views on the present heroes has gone viral, and more people are falling to those views, and with no one to follow, they begin to gravitate towards the League of Villains. Meanwhile, credit for the arrest has gone to Endeavor, to ensure that Iida, Izuku and Todoroki are not arrested for using their powers without permission. Iida apologizes for his rash behavior and decides to work on improving himself.

Tropes:

  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: Downplayed. Police Chief Tsuragamae reprimands the students who faced Stain when they were [legally] not allowed to, but goes off record in complimenting them for doing so as it was still the right thing to do.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Deku, Todoroki and Iida have survived Stain's onslaught and even rescued Mr. Native, but tales of their heroics can never be told since they committed a violation of performing superheroics without any license; If word got out, they would have to be punished. To shift focus, Endeavor will receive the credit for Stain's capture.
  • Hidden Depths: Gunhead is six feet tall, musclebound, and has a helmet covered in gun barrels. He notices that Uraraka is on the phone with Midoriya when she should be training, and goes to investigate. What's the first thing out of his mouth?
    Gunhead: Was that a booyyy?
  • Honor Before Reason: Taking down Stain was pretty clearly self-defense, but all the police care about is that it was still unlicensed superheroism.
  • Moment Killer: One that is played for laughs... in an oddly positive way; when Todoroki notices that Deku and Iida both share hand injuries, he sincerely and regretfully wonders if he has some sort of arm/ hand-injuring curse that inflicts his teammates during the times he gets involved in fights. The latter two burst out in laughter at this, and it's heavily implied that they don't fault him at all.
  • Streisand Effect: In-Universe. The video of Stain's rant against the heroes is circulating on the internet despite constant attempts to remove it. This has the unfortunate effect of spurring villains to organize with the League rather than acting independently.
