Saying Too Much: When a boy asks which criminal they are transporting, Constable Higgins replies, "Just a man who needs to be hanged." The boy then says, "Is it James Gillies?", and all the passengers in the car begin to panic. Brackenreid later berates Higgins for his stupidity.
"Take That!" Kiss: Gillies gives a rather passionate one to Murdoch.
Wham Shot: The shocking moment when Gillies pulls Murdoch down for a big smooch. The hero-villain dynamic between the two characters has suddenly been injected with a dose of homoeroticism which didn't really exist before.
Villainous Crush: It's implied that Gillies has one on Murdoch after he kisses the detective on the mouth for a full three seconds. Although Gillies, who was pinned to the ground, certainly used the unexpected physical contact as a distraction so that he could free himself, it has been hinted throughout the series that he's gay, and it seems natural that he would be attracted to a handsome, intelligent man like Murdoch.
