Murdoch faces a serial killer. Is he Jack the Ripper?
Tropes:
- Ambiguous Situation: Was the killer really punishing the "sins" of the women he killed, or was he just playing a twisted game?
- Dead Person Impersonation: The killer murdered the detective pursuing him and stole his identity before coming to Canada.
- Historical Domain Character: The murders are compared several times to those of Jack the Ripper, and it's speculated (thought not confirmed) that the killer may be the Ripper himself.
- Freudian Excuse: Dr. Roberts strongly suspects that the killer suffered some sort of trauma in childhood that left him with a seething hatred of women who worked. They committed some kind of "sins" that the killer had to punish them for.
- Jekyll & Hyde: Dr. Roberts thinks that the killer created a secondary world where his "child" self could be safe, but also created a world where a malevolent Mr. Hyde persona manifested.
- Mysterious Past: We get a few hints as to the killer's past, but they might all just be Blatant Lies, given that he's impersonating a policeman he murdered. We also never learn what, if anything, he suffered in his childhood to make him a murderer.
- Serial Killer: One who targets women and longs to be caught...
