Jessica agrees to help clear a former research assistant of killing her new employer, despite the fact that the woman is a pathological liar.
Tropes:
- Amoral Attorney: DA Bruce Hastings is actually the perp and is only fervently pursuing a plea bargain for Dana Ballard so he can effectively pin the murder on her.
- Compulsive Liar: Dana Ballard, which make it difficult for her lawyer or Jessica to get the truth from her.
- Cool Old Lady: Aside from Jessica herself, there's also the techie and resourceful Wanda Polaski, Vincent's grandmother.
- Crusading Lawyer: Vincent Polaski may be socially awkward and not as suave as other lawyers, but his heart is in the right place, even if the case seems hopeless.
- Behind the Black: The actual killer was hiding behind Dana and it was he whom the victim Ethan Stevens is reacting to, but we couldn't see him until The Reveal later.
- Bluffing the Murderer: Despite having sufficient proof that Bruce Hastings is the secret insider and partner of Stevens, there's actually no proof yet that he's the killer. Thus, Jessica coaxes a confession out of him by having Vincent pretend to want to blackmail him.
