Jessica is a witness to the apparent discovery of Peter Kerry, the amnesiac, long-lost heir to a millionaire, by old college buddy Danny Schubert. She accompanies the interested parties to the home of Peter's grandfather, Andrew Kerry to try and determine the truth of the matter. Naturally, someone ends up dead, and Jessica finds herself investigating Danny's murder as it becomes apparent that he arranged the whole thing in an attempt to line his own pockets.
This episode contains examples of:
- Detective Patsy: The guy who pretended to discover Peter brought Jessica along as a "witness" although he gets mrudered before she can be suspicious enough to expose him.
- Genuine Imposter: Peter turns out to be an imposter (albeit one whose story about having had amnesia for 20 years is true) but the end of the episode has a new clue turned up by Andrew's investigators strongly indicate that he's the real deal.
- Long-Lost Relative: Millionaire Andrew Kerry is getting old and in bad health and wants to find his grandson Peter, who disappeared 20 years ago after an anti-war march.
