Recap / Moshi Monsters Pop Goes The Boo Boo

Go To

Pop Goes the Boo Boo is the fifth Moshi Monsters mission. It used to be Pop Goes the Goo Goo and feature Lady Goo Goo, but after she was Put on a Bus, it has changed.

It begins with your Super Moshi being summoned to Buster Bumblechops's hatchery to investigate. If you look in his cupboard, you will see a note about a Moshling named Wallop. Buster will say he is tracking Wallop, but that there is no time now. Click on Buster and he will say that Baby Rox's voice got stolen in the middle of a sold out concert. If you ask who did it, he will say he doesn't know but suspects foul play, and you agree. If you ask when it happened, he says that it happened last week and she was putting up posters for her album Born Yesterday. If you ask where she is, he says that Simon Growl is looking after her. Your monster supposes they are at Growl Mansion and Buster says that he has got his roarkers to build her a dressing room at the top of his mansion. Your monster says they should go to Growl mansion and Buster agrees, saying that Baby Rox is distraught. Your monster reassures you and heads off.

At the mansion, there is a sticky hand print that your monster recognises. Simon Growl tells you Baby Rox is fine. Tell him "Buster told me she was distressed." or "You're lying! I can hear her crying!". Simon reluctantly agrees that she's a bit blue, but will not let you see her, so you have to trick him. Tell him that Cheryl Troll's mansion is way bigger than his, and he will run off to build up his mansion. note  Then, enter.

In the dressing room, Baby Rox is crying. Click on her milk bottle, pacifier and rattle. They will go to your inventory (the blue bag on the right). Give them to Baby Rox, then click on the speakers to play a tune. This will cheer her up. If you click on Baby Rox, she will have a speech bubble with nothing but dots. You ask her questions, but she still doesn't speak. She then points to a photo. Click on it. It is a photo of Baby Rox outside the Underground Disco and a robot duck is emitting a strange glow from its camera. Click the photo to grab it and you will go to the disco.

At the disco, Bubba will tell you to go away as only VIP's are allowed. Show him the photo, then tell him you need to get Baby Rox's voice back. He tells you there is something odd about the photo and you tell him there is a strange-looking paparazzo. The robot duck then flies into a spooky door. Bonkers, the creature on the stone, gets your attention. Click on him. He tells you the door is evil, then uses a spell to open another one. Go through it.

On the other side of the door, click on the jewels after they light up. A bit of the Moshi Dance plays and you go in.

You find a CLONC lab with a a machine using the voice to break up Rox and take it to the airship. The robot duck sounds an alarm, then calls more. A camera Moshling tells you to use the machine to fight them off. Then, click on the ducks to zap them. Then, the machine gets busted and the camera Moshling escapes. Talk to her. She thanks you for saving her from the robot ducks, and introduces herself as Holga. You ask what she's doing, and she said that she was kidnapped and used to steal Baby Rox's voice. If you ask how it happened, she says that a CLONC agent named Sprockett made her do it, but that she still has the voice on her memory card, so they can get back to Baby Rox to restore it.

Back at the dressing room, click on Holga and Baby Rox thanks you. Click on her and she promises free tickets and lets you adopt Holga.

This mission provides examples of

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Your monster, who wears their cape, mask and belt, and Baby Rox, who wears her bonnet, shoes, bracelet and diaper.
  • Alliterative Name: Buster Bumblechops.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: There is Holga, who is a Happy Snappy (shaped like a camera) and mentioned is Wallop, whose sillouette resembles a walking drum.
  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Bad robots actually. They have no qualms about kidnapping and enslaving a Moshling to steal another's voice.
  • Barefoot Cartoon Animal: Buster Bumblechops wears a full suit of clothes with no shoes.
  • Brainy Baby: Baby Rox is a baby, who can speak and is a celebrity.
  • Cartoon Creature: Buster Bumblechops, Bubba, Bonkers and some other creatures in the background look like weird creatures and their species is unknown.
  • Damsel in Distress: Two female Moshlings get into trouble: Baby Rox has her voice stolen and Holga gets kidnapped.
  • Dark Is Evil: Played straight for the C.L.O.N.C. paraphernalia, which is quite spooky-looking, but averted for some bats that can be seen in the background.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This mission focuses on Baby Rox and brings Bubba and Bonkers into the spotlight for a bit as well.
  • Drink-Based Characterization: Like most babies, Baby Rox likes milk.
  • First Gray Hair: If you don't automatically click the Cheryl Troll option, you will get other options, one being that he has gray hair showing, which also makes him run away.
  • Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Simon Growl wears a shirt, pants and shoes.
  • Fun with Acronyms: The villains are the Criminal League Of Naughty Critters, which spells out C.L.O.N.C.
  • The Ghost: Cheryl Troll, Flumpy and Dustbin Beaver are all mentioned but not seen.
  • Happy Dance: When Baby Rox is cheered up, and when she gets her voice back, she does a little dance.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Baby Rox sobs a lot when she cries, as do all babies.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: It is never revealed how Bonkers managed to do his spell.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Baby Rox's speech bubble is blank and has dots. One example for something to say is "I don't speak dot".
  • Lost Voice Plot: This plot focuses on Baby Rox's voice being stolen.
  • Meaningful Name: Baby Rox is, well, a baby and Bonkers is thought to be bonkers.
  • Mister Strangenoun: Baby Rox has "Baby" in her name, Simon Growl has "Growl" in his, and Cheryl Troll has "Troll" in hers. Also, Dustbin Beaver's name is two words, he's not necessarily mentioned but can be mentioned if you click on a "wrong" option while tricking Simon Growl.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Before Lady Goo Goo's retirement, this mission featured her as a main character, as a parody of Lady Ga Ga. Now, she is not referenced, but Dustbin Beaver, who's likely a parody of Justin Beiber, is still referenced.
  • Perfectly Cromulent Word: This mission uses the words "roarker" (a worker), "pacifier-dummy" (a pacifier) and "Robo-Quack" (a robot duck).
  • Pun: The punny-named street Ooh La Lane is briefly mentioned.
  • Red Is Heroic: Your Super Moshi wears a red cape and mask.
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to the nursery rhyme Pop Goes the Weasel.
  • Sick Episode: Back when this mission was released, this qualified as a subversion: It was preceded by Lady Goo Goo appearing out of sorts upon being clicked, but then it turned out she wasn't sick, her voice had just been stolen. Nowadays, it's simply averted.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: Your Super Moshi is wearing their red cape.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Your monster recognises the sticky hand print, but it doesn't pop up in the future.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The C.L.O.N.C. abused two female Moshlings: Baby Rox and Holga.
