Recap / Monster Rancher S2 E20: Jill's Icy Secret

Go To

Moo has perfected his original body, destroying both the Magic Stone and the Final Gate in the process. Meanwehile, the Searchers reach a village led by friendly Jills. Jill gives them dinner, and tells them of a story of Cinderbird, who defeated the evil Skullcapt. Skullcapt was a hungry demon, so Cinderbird gave up his body for Skullcapt to eat. Skullcapt was heartbroken and relinquished his evil ways, and the Searchers wonder if Moo could be redeemed like that.

Jill decides that the Searchers have good hearts. He takes them to a valley next to an icecap, where the Phoenix's body is encased in ice. But its body remains empty, and the Searchers have no idea where to find the Phoenix's soul. Holly concentrates like she used to with the Magic Stone... but it alerts Moo to her location! Moo will destroy the Phoenix if he finds it here, so the Searchers move to distract him.

Moo is far too powerful for them to defeat, and the battle seems hopeless—and when Mocchi brags that they've already found the Phoenix, the Searchers must move quickly to stop him!

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidentally Broke the MacGuffin: Holy's Magic Stone is completely absorbed by the Final Gate in order to complete Moo's fusion of body and soul.
  • Monster in the Ice: Much like Moo's original body, the Phoenix is found carefully preserved in ice.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Everyone has this reaction when they realize Moo is headed straight for them.
    • Moo has a minor one of this upon learning that the Searchers did the impossible and actually found the Phoenix, though he covers it up with rage.
  • Removed Achilles' Heel: Thanks to the Magic Stone used in the process, not only is Moo off life support, but is no longer weak against light.
  • Saying Too Much: When Moo corners the Searchers, stating their chances of finding the Phoenix were unlikely, Mocchi tells him that they've already found it. Suezo tries to pass it off as Mocchi being affected by the cold and stating the Searchers couldn't have found it because it wasn't resurrected yet. Unfortunately, Moo doesn't believe Suezo.
