Desperate for a new washer and dryer, Al and Peg steal Marcy and Steve's spots on a game show for newlywed couples, only to be put up more than they, mainly Al, bargained for.
Episode Tropes:
- Brainless Beauty: The lovely Zelda is going to be featured naked in an upcoming magazine, is oblivious to Bink Winkleman's insults to her, and barely knows where the prizes are.
- Comically Small Bribe: Steve gets Kelly and Bud to reveal the con with a square meal.
- Determinator: Steve tries his hardest to win the car no matter how painful the electric chair is.
- Early-Installment Weirdness:
- Marcy is flat out terrified to hurt Steve, even with the car on the line. By the time she married Jefferson, she would've had no qualms.
- Steve makes a sexist remark to goad Marcy into shocking him harder. While it works, she's visibly remorseful she hurt him and still went nowhere near the maximum. Later seasons, Marcy would've held nothing back.
- "Big Uns" is referred to as "Squish Magazine"
- Bink Winkleman doesn't show the slightest bit of contempt towards Al's profession. The next season would treat shoe salesman as the absolute bottom of the ladder.
- Marcy seems more contemptuous towards Peg than Al as she writes Peg's profession as "Waste of a human life".
- Marcy is flat out terrified to hurt Steve, even with the car on the line. By the time she married Jefferson, she would've had no qualms.
- Gory Discretion Shot: After Al is sat on by several overweight women, Bink declares "Here comes Bertha!" Cue Al's eyes widening in shock and horror as the shadow of an apparently incredibly large woman crosses over him.
- Men Are the Expendable Gender: The game show starts off fairly balanced in who gets tortured for the prize, until the husbands go three times in a row after the women went only once.
- Sickening Sweethearts: The couple Al and Peggy are initially competing against. Though we do get a few hints they might end up like Al and Peggy—the husband pouts because Al is monopolizing Zelda, while the wife compliments Peggy on being an excellent player.
- Smarmy Host: It's clear Bink Winkleman loves torturing the contestants more than he loves the attention, and repeatedly makes potshots at Zelda. Thankfully, she's too stupid to care.
- STD Immunity: Averted when the husband of the other couple complains to Bink that "Al won't let me touch the lovely Zelda!" Bink pacifies him by telling him to be grateful—"Then you won't need to go to the free clinic". The man nods in relief.
- Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: It's never shown whether the Bundys got the washer dyer due to the fact it's never specified if they won the car in addition to or in lieu of their other prizes.
