- It also pokes fun at the infamous story of how a Cartoon Network intern drew a goofy face over a picture of Spike Spiegel that was drawn by the show's lead artist in one of the stairwells at the network's headquarters. Mao Mao catches a Sweetie-Pie drawing a similar looking face over a fancy portrait of Snugglemane before doing the same thing himself.
- Costume-Test Montage: Snugglemagne makes Mao Mao put on a fashion show to show off the many ideas he has for new outfits.
- Hobbes Was Right: Without Mao Mao bossing the Sweetie-Pies around, Pure Heart is collapsing under the weight of its own litter and safety hazards before the monster attacks even come into play.
- Parody: The persona Mao Mao adopts for most of the episode parodies the title character of Steven Universe: He's relentlessly cheerful and positive, wears a pink shirt with a symbol on it (a heart instead of a star), plays the ukulele, has wide-eyes, and Mao Mao's head even changes shape to match Steven's.
- Shout-Out: During Mao Maos Costume-Test Montage above, he briefly dresses as Finn from Adventure Time. Snugglemane dismisses it with "That's over!"
