Mac Gyver 2016 S 2 E 12 Mac Jack Recap
Luckily, we have the subtitles to tell us these things.

Jack: The Ghost? That same lunatic bomb maker from the sandbox?
Mac: Yes.
Jack: The one that tried to turn me into pizza slices in NYC?
Mac: That one.
Jack: I'm not a fan.
Mac: Yeah, well, he's back, and he just turned my entire house into one of his bombs.

The Ghost is back, and this time it's personal as Mac and Jack are trapped inside Mac's house, which is rigged to explode. As the team work to free them, it emerges that L.A. is also under threat.

In flashback, we see the early days of Mac and Jack's partnership in the Sandbox.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back:
  • Flashback: To the early days of Mac and Jack's partnership, when Jack was assigned to guard Mac, showing how their initial dislike turned to friendship.
  • Friendship Moment: The flashbacks have Jack assigned to guard Mac as he disarms bombs. Jack is unhappy about this assignment as his tour will end soon and he's concerned about Retirony and assumes Mac will get him killed. In the end, he signs up for another tour rather than entrust Mac to someone else.
Jack: That poor little bomb nerd with the silly hamburger name ain't gonna last two days in the Sandbox without me watching his back.
  • Good News, Bad News:
Jack: Okay, buddy. Good news is, that second bomb just got here. The bad news is...
Mac: Second bomb just got here?
  • Hidden Depths: Bozer knows how to drive a garbage truck due to research for a movie he was making, "Trash Men vs. Zombies."
Riley: Shocked I never saw that one.
    Bozer: You're a hater.
  • It's Personal: Charlie concludes that the Ghost's attack is motivated by revenge on Mac for stopping him in New York rather than a job.
  • Oh, Crap!: So many, as befits an episode where our hero's house is rigged to explode.
    • Mac, when his Sherlock Scan of the oddly-coloured patches on the walls tells him what's happened. Closely followed by Jack and Bozer, who almost set off the bomb by opening a window and a door respectively.
    • Mac, when he realises the Ghost's M.O. means there's likely another bomb in L.A. somewhere.
    • And again, when he realises what the bomb's explosive is.
    • Finally, when he and Charlie try to cut the bomb's wires simultaneously... but through a number of relays the bomb doesn't have to deal with, meaning their comms are delayed and they almost set off the bombs themselves.
  • Noodle Incident: Matty needs the power out on Mac's street.
Bozer: I can do it in two. I just need a wet towel, a broomstick and a ladder. [Beat] What, you think this is the first time Mac has asked me to blow all the power to the neighborhood? Please.
  • Properly Paranoid: Variation. Mac apparently installed a secret escape hatch at one point, but it doesn't help as the Ghost rigged that one too.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Mac, when he runs some tests and realises the Ghost's bomb is made of cubic gauche nitrogen, a.k.a. "The most powerful non-nuclear explosive known to man."
  • Shout-Out:
    • With terrorists targeting L.A., Jack immediately identifies the priority target: Bruce Willis.
Jack: Hey, if I'm a bomb-flavored nutbar hatching a terrorist plot, taking out John McClane would be at the top of my to-do list.
  • Spotting the Thread: Bozer, Riley and Charlie realise where the other bomb is when they spot a garbage truck out on the street when it's not trash day.
  • Tempting Fate: In a flashback to Afghanistan, Jack calls himself "Mr. Careful" right before stepping on a pressure plate.
