Art by Crash X Fusion: Think she'll play an encore?
Luz ends up in a strange place where she makes a new friend, as the rest of her friends enjoy a game of Grudgby.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Jack Frost calls the fire nymph who slapped him for thinking he slapped her butt "Miranda", when her name is Jessica.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Luz has known the Bat Queen and the palismen she protects for years, regularly visiting them for training sessions.
    • Bo starts to hang out with Willow and the troublemakers in addition to Gus.
  • Armor-Piercing Response: When Skara says she had no choice in ending things with Bo on Boscha's orders, Willow says, "Just keep telling yourself that." Skara later admits she submitted too easily.
  • Blatant Lies: Luz says that Azura Book 1 is "fine but too flowery" for her. Then Amity finds fanart of herself as Azura in the book, with Luz blushingly admitting she thought of some inspirational art while reading.
  • Call-Back: Willow brings up when Skara told her about Amity keeping a knife in her binder.
  • The Cameo:
    • Lilith appears as The Faceless when Amity returns to Blight Manor.
    • Rumplestiltskin is one of the patrons at the club being comforted by Chaos.
  • Chekhov's Gag: The joke water Luz is served at one point in the club is used by Puck to pay back Jack Frost for harrassing him.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Amity tells Luz that her spelling and writing are improving.
    • Willow calls out Skara on how she ended her friendship with Bo in the previous chapter.
  • Dance of Romance: Implied. During Luz's performance in the club, Anu Bist asks Kitsuni for a dance and she agrees.
  • Disappointed in You: Willow namedrops this trope to Skara for ending her friendship with Bo just to please Boscha.
  • The Faceless: The woman at Blight Manor drinking tea has her face obscured the whole time.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The Forest of Fear, which plays a dangerous role later on.
    • Oberon is mentioned, which gets a reaction out of Puck.
    • Anu Bist tells Luz he sees something in her that she has yet to see herself.
    • Hermes mentions that Aphrodite's got a son who's trying to start a music career in the Human Realm.
  • Flirtatious Smack on the Ass: An accidental version happens as being startled by the Cheshire Cat causes Luz to throw the watch she stole from Jack ends up hitting a fire nymph's butt, which leads to her slapping Jack Frost thinking he did it.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: While Bo already spends time with Gus, she never hung out with him outside the H.A.S. and she most certainly didn't interact with Willow or the troublemakers.
  • The Gadfly: Luz briefly teases Anu Bist when he tells her he needs to reconnect with Kitsuni.
  • The Ghost: Hermes brings up Aphrodite and her unnamed son when he starts gossiping in the nightclub.
  • Gossipy Hens: Rare male example. Hermes ends up spreading some about Luz, which lands her on stage.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Eda still ends up transforming into the Owl Beast and learns the curse is getting worse.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Amity learns about Eda's curse and sees her in her cursed form for the first time.
    • Luz meets the fae for the first time.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Jack Frost belittles Puck for accidentally breaking a glass and Luz indirectly helps Puck get back at him. The watch she steals hits the butt of a fire nymph and she slaps Jack thinking he slapped her; she then spits lava into Jack's face while telling him off and when Puck "tries" putting it out, he uses trick water the waiters use which makes Jack run around screaming.
  • Loose Lips: Even though he keeps the fact that Luz is human a secret, Hermes gossips about her which forces her to sing a song.
  • Luminescent Blush:
    • Luz turns bright red when Amity finds her fanart and tries to come up with an excuse for it.
    • Skara blushes upon seeing Willow in the closet with her.
  • Meaningful Name: The bouncer, who's a jester's head, is named Jack, a nod to the Jack-in-the-Box.
  • One-Steve Limit: There's two characters named Jack who appear in the trickster gods' nightclub: Jack Frost and Jack the bouncer.
  • Out of Focus: Willow, Gus and the troublemakers hang out at the grudgby game, Eda, King and Amity only show up for 2 scenes each, and Boscha isn't seen while playing during the game.
  • Palette Swap: Luz's Fan Art of Amity as Azura shows the white and purple dress colored as purple and black.
  • Pet the Dog: To get Bo's mind off of Skara, Willow invites her to sit with her, Gus and the troublemakers at the grudgby game.
  • Pocket Dimension: The A-Plot of the chapter takes place in one, appearing as a nightclub within an endless void.
  • Point of Divergence: From "Escape of the Palisman": Willow and Gus attend the Grudgby game while Luz goes to the Bat Queen not to face her trials, but to ask for advice on improving her magic (she's also noted to have known her for 5-6 years). Amity appears unlike the actual episode and learns about Eda's curse much sooner, and King doesn't drag Eda in Owl Beast mode to the slayground.
  • Pre-Meeting: Luz meeting the Fae for herself will lead to many important events to come.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Principal Bump agrees to give Eda the day off since she isn't feeling well, but points out she'll need to work the midnight shift to make up for it.
  • The Reveal:
    • Luz has been coming to train with the Bat Queen by doing her challenges ever since she was 8.
    • The fae, whose name is Puck, is the so called "imaginary friend, Pucky" that Hooty knows.
  • Secret-Keeper: Upon realizing the curse is getting worse, Eda makes King promise he won't ell Luz: while he agrees, neither of them are okay with it.
  • Sequel Hook: Luz obtains the glasses of her birth mother, who she can contact through a séance if she can gather the proper ingredients.
  • Ship Tease: Implied between Anu Bust and Kitsuni, who have history.
  • Shout-Out: Among the Trickster Demons are Eris, Goddess of Mischief, Hermes, Rumplestilskin and the Cheshire Cat.
    • Along with the latter, another Alice In Wonderland reference stems from how the entrance to the pocket dimension is down a rabbit hole, with Luz even saying "it's something out of a 1940s cartoon."
    • Olympus and the Underworld are mentioned along with Asgard by Julio while he's questioning Luz about which realm she comes from.
    • Word of God confirms Eris is a Composite Character of her incarnations from Sinbad and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
    • Cheese Sandwich appears as a performer in the club and Discord is mentioned. Chaos from Aladdin: The Series also cameos comforting Rumpelstiltskin.
    • Loki mentions "the Third Race": in Gargoyles, the Third Race consisted of magical beings from various mythologies, including both gods and tricksters.
  • Sticky Fingers: Luz steals the bouncer's watch which he doesn't notice.
  • The Un-Reveal:
    • The Order Kitsuni now works for isn't given much description.
    • The woman Amity reports to isn't given an identity in this chapter.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Actually, it's "What does she see in her?" Willow and Gus wonder what could have happened between Luz and Amity that would have led Luz to develop a crush on someone she hated so much.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Willow lays into Skara telling her that she's no better than Boscha since she chose to cut Bo loose.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: In the time Luz spends in the trickster club, it's still the afternoon in the Boiling Isles.
