Recap / Lucifer (2016) S05E11 "Resting Devil Face"

Go To

Lucifer and Amenadiel discuss what to do with God as the latter is losing control of his powers. God ends up carelessly making himself mortal. While helping him locate his powers, Lucifer helps Chloe solve the murder of a former heavyweight boxer.

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Maze while talking to God claims a demon can't grow a soul, he simply asks "Can't she?".
  • Back from the Dead: God immediately brings Dan back after he accidentally kills him, though it's implied that he rewinds back time, as (except for God and Lucifer) everyone acts like nothing happened.
  • Berserk Button: To say that Lucifer and God's relationship is complicated is putting things mildly. But as a bunch of drug dealers find out, threatening his father, let alone doing violence to him (especially in his currently powerless state) is one of the fastest ways to get the Devil let loose on them.
Lucifer: No one lays hands on my father.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: God. One frozen drink and He's spilling the beans about the sting. One glass of bourbon and He's snoring on Lucifer's piano.
  • Continuity Nod: Kristoff's gym has posters for celebrities and businesses that have worked with them, all of which are references to previous cases Lucifer and Chloe have worked on.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: God makes Dan explode after Dan mentions his relationship with the Goddess.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The drug dealers that try to kill God get Lucifer's full devil unleashed upon them all, leaving a pile of them upon the floor and Lucifer in full devil mode Neck Lifting the dealer who pistol-whipped his father.
  • Fantastic Drug: Walcott stole a new drug called YSD intended for fighter pilots, with a low LD50.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: The victim, Albert "Almighty" Walcott, fell on hard times and lost his muscular body, rendering his corpse nearly unrecognizable.
  • Idiot Ball: Amenadiel trusting Maze to be near a powerless God right after she ranted how much she hated him.
  • It Was with You All Along: God heavily implies that Maze has already cultivated the soul that she so badly wanted him to give her.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: God forgot where he put his powers the moment he gave them up.
  • Last Place You Look: God's powers are stored in one of Charlie's toys.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: When God momentarily loses control of his powers, he makes Dan explode into bloody guts that splatter all over the LAPD precinct.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: God gets pistol-whipped in the jaw, and doesn't take feeling pain for the first time in eternity well.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: After God brings Dan back to life, Lucifer scolds his father for endangering the people he cares about "and... others".
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Chloe doesn't know who the ex-heavyweight boxer Almighty was.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: After announcing his plan to retire, God leaves without another word, leaving Lucifer and Amenadiel hanging.
  • Wham Line: Courtesy of God:
"I think it's time. Time for me to retire."
