Recap / Lucifer (2016) S02E10 "Quid Pro Ho"

Go To

Amenadiel arrives just in time to stop Mother from killing Chloe. In the morning, Lucifer tries to apologize for standing Chloe up at their dinner last night, only to learn that she isn't willing to deal with his antics today, as it's the day of her father's murderer's trial. Chloe, Lucifer, and recently-returned-to-LA Penelope head to the courtroom, only to be informed that the key witness for the prosecution was killed and the case is now hanging by a thread. Oh, and that "Charlotte Richards" is now the murderer's defense attorney.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Almost Kiss: The episode ends with Lucifer and Chloe leaning closer to each other, but before the actual kiss can take place.
  • Apology Gift: Amenadiel brings flowers to apologise to Maze for lying to her. Later Lucifer brings food and wine to Chloe to apologise for standing her up in the last episode.
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Lucifer fakes a Russian accent when repeating Boris' words during his testimony.
  • Double Entendre: More like a hurricane of them; Maze keeps speaking in those when Dan visits Lucifer after the latter wonders out loud who could have told his mother all the details about Joe Fields' murder investigation. She even manages to drop a That's What She Said at some point.
  • Guardian Angel: Chloe has Amenadiel and Maze looking out for her safety, though only Amenadiel is actually an angel—and a fallen one at that.
  • Head in a Box: Boris' head is mailed to Dan before Perry's murder trial starts.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Lucifer says this word-for-word to his mother, complete with a red-eyed Death Glare; it only serves to confirm what Amenadiel had told her earlier about Chloe being the most important person in Lucifer's life.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Perry may have gotten away with John Decker's murder, but The Mafiya will make sure that he's punished for Boris'.
  • Never My Fault: When Dan admits having slept with Charlotte, Lucifer angrily tackles him through the Triad's door. On the other side, they both end up surrounded by the triad members.
Lucifer: Oh, now look what you've done!
  • Oh, Crap!: Perry, when Dan tells him what Russian mob will do to him if they find out he killed Boris.
  • Omniglot: Lucifer says that he can speak every language.
Lucifer: I'm the Devil, I can speak anything.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: When he hears his mother has had sex with Dan, Lucifer nearly loses it and even physically attacks Dan, after saying to him
Lucifer: You slept with my Mu—uh—Marlotte!
  • Reality Has No Subtitles: The conversation between Lucifer and Madam Li is unsubtitled, as neither Dan nor Maze speak Chinese.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Lucifer gives his mother a red-eyed Death Glare when she lets slip that she tried to kill Chloe last night.
  • The Reveal: Chloe isn't some random human; she was born when an angel (namely, Amenadiel) blessed a childless couple. Her birth is literally the result of a miracle.
  • Sherlock Scan: Ella says that she figured out that "Charlotte" is the woman Dan slept with by observing a long, curly blond hair on his jacket the other day and a lipstick smudge on his cuff, combined with the fact that he's started working out again.
    Dan: Really?
Ella: No. I just saw the way your butt puckered when Chloe mentioned her name in the lab this morning.
  • Unflinching Walk: Maze walks away from Amenadiel's car, which she has just blown up, without looking back.
