Tropes present in this episode:

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When Milo tries to convince Jonathan that the latter's defeat of him was staged and Jonathan refuses to believe it, Milo decides to prove it by going to the ring with him before the upcoming battle and showing how easily an experienced Greco Roman fighter can defeat Jonathan. Later, when Milo takes his place in the fight against Hans Mueller, the fight doesn't even last a minute before Milo overpowers the arrogant younger wrestler, saving the townsfolk's money.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Jimmy Hart is Milo and Hans's greedy manager who oversees the con they take part in, but when he overhears Hans make disparaging commentas about the aging Milo as a fighter, he seems disgusted with his fighter's words. He may be a conman, but he appears to have some respect for Milo.
  • Girly Run: After the (staged) fight between Jonathan and Milo, orchestrated as part of Jimmy Hart's con, a young man in a red shirt who was watching the fight from a platform can be seen flailing his arms as her and the rest of thr crowd disperse.
  • Go Out with a Smile: After Milo's fight to stop his boss from swindling the masses, his heart gives out, and on his deathbed, he's happy to have finally had a real fight in years, and sees his recently deceased wife, smiling and proud of him, and repeats her words before passing on: "Love...is forever".
  • Heroic Suicide: A variant: Milo's ill wife Anna is the reason he participates in a con as a Jobber, which she sees is a huge low for a champion like him. So she stops taking her medicines to anticipate her demise, and when she dies shortly before Jonathan Garvey has a match with the other fighter involved in the scheme, a grieving Milo decides to atone for his part by exposing the con to the next victim and offering to take his place and save the money of his unsuspecting supporters.
  • Jerk Jock: Hans Mueller, an arrogant younger wrestler who willingly participates in the con and, unlike Milo, has no qualms about swindling others and goes out of his way to belittle and dismiss his older colleague.
  • Jobber: Milo's part in the con. He's not proud of it, but keeps it so he can pay for his wife's hospital bills.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Anna's appearance to Milo during his final moments might be either a Dying Dream or her spirit coming to take him to the afterlife.
  • More Despicable Minion: Jimmy Hart may be the one overseeing the con involving baiting Jonathan into thinking he can defeat a wrestling champion and then having his other champion defeat him in a second fight, but he doesn't seem sadistic about it. His younger fighter, Hans Mueller, is a self-indulging sadist, showing delight at the propsect of conning the townsmen out of their money and cruelly antecipating the chance to seriously injured Jonathan in their upcoming fight.
  • Older Hero vs. Younger Villain: Milo, an aging Greco-Roman wrestler, fights against Hans, a younger wrestler in his prime and willing accomplish in their boss's scheme.
  • Pro Wrestling Episode: It involves an old Greek-Romam champion forced to participate in a con to help his ill wife. When he does fight against the other accomplice for real in the end, he shows just why he's a true champion.
  • Pro Wrestling Is Real: Milo Stavroupolis may have participated in the con, but when arrogant young athlete Hans Mueller keeps taunting him and won’t shut up, Milo shows him that those “wrestling” skills can be legitimately used if needed to teach him a lesson.
  • Throwing the Fight: Part of the con Milo participates in. He arranges a fight with someone, loses on purpose, his boss convinces the "winner" that he can beat his champion and offers up a fight against Milo, who once again loses, convincing the challenger that he's talented enough to have a second fight against the other champion, Hans Mueller, who unlike Milo, fights to win and defeats the challenger, and then their boss swindles the bets of unsuspecting supporters. Milo is ashamed of his part in it, but keeps doing it so he can pay for his wife's medical bills.
