Recap / Legacies S3E7 "Yup, It's a Leprechaun, All Right"

Go To

With the school low on finances and in desperate need of money, Lizzie suggests a fundraiser, while Alaric tries to get a loan from the bank. Meanwhile, a leprechaun tries to get into the school. Kaleb captures it, and Lizzie learns that leprechauns make people want to spend money around them. She suggests using the leprechaun to earn enough money to save the school. Cleo tries to get Hope to move on from losing Landon, but once Hope finds out about the leprechaun, she realizes that a portal to the prison world must be open for monsters to be coming through. Hope lets the monster go, hoping that he can lead her to the portal, but when the leprechaun attacks Alaric, Cleo destroys it with a spell. The leprechaun bursts into green goo and everything it swallowed, allowing Alaric to repay the mortgage. Cleo realizes that Hope is utterly consumed by Landon and will not move on. MG reveals to Lizzie that he's been keeping the ascendant all this time. Hope finds it and confronts MG.

Tropes

  • Call-Back: Lizzie references the previous episode when MG telling her "no" has cost him sex with her.
  • Chunky Salsa Rule: Cleo blows up the leprechaun with a spell, and it explodes in green goo (and lots of money).
  • Glamour Failure: Apparently, MG has been keeping the ascendant in a box on a shelf in his room. Alyssa placed an illusion spell on it, making the box appear as a Flash action figure. After their breakup, Alyssa removed the spell.
  • Internal Reveal: Cleo gets a crash course in everything Malivore.
  • Leprechaun: Leprechauns speak an unknown language and are attracted to wealth, which they consume. Their mere presence also attracts wealth and causes people to act irrationally and spend money like crazy.
  • Money Dumb: The leprechaun has this effect on people, making them want to spend a lot of money. A woman is perfectly willing to shell out $91,000 on a bust of Landon Hope has just made. When Hope refuses, the woman tries to stab her with a chisel.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Jed during the car wash.
  • Sexual Extortion: Alaric's application for a loan is denied by the bank manager, who turns out to be Vera Lilien, the mother of the late Dana Lilien. Vera has recently split with her husband and is pretty lonely. She tells Alaric that she'd be willing to approve his application for... a different sort of collateral. Alaric is disturbed, although he later admits he was flattered. Luckily for him, the leprechaun steals an armored van before this can go beyond words.
  • Stood Up: Josie was supposed to meet Finch for a study date at lunch but she ended up accidentally eating a truth weed and missed it. She tracks Finch down and apologizes at the end of the episode.
  • Title Drop: Lizzie says that to Hope when she goes to the basement.
  • Truth Serums: When looking for an herb to help MG bake, Josie accidentally ingests a truth weed, which causes her to reveal how anxious she is about her attraction to Finch.
