Recap / Legacies S1E13 "The Boy Who Still Has a Lot of Good to Do"

Go To

Just after returning from dealing with the mummy, Alaric and the others discover that MG, Landon, and Rafael are gone, which is a problem, since it's a full moon and Rafael wouldn't be able to control his transformation. They search the nearby woods and find a wounded Rafael, who can't remember what happened. He slowly starts to regain his memories.

Apparently, Kaleb asked Rafael and Landon to watch over MG while he was gone, and Landon convinced MG to visit his parents during spring break. They arrived to the Greasley home only to learn that his mother didn't want to see him, and neither did his father, a preacher who was also running for the town mayor. At Landon's urging, MG still went to his church and was shocked that his father had apparently never known about him becoming a vampire. When he revealed his vampire teeth, his father condemned him, causing MG to wipe his memories and leave. With nightfall, Landon chained up Rafael in the woods, but then MG attacked Landon in anger for convincing him to take the trip and, at the sight of Landon's blood, tore into his neck and drained him. Rafael then turned and bit MG before running off.

They find MG dying in the woods from Rafael's bite. While Hope is devastated to learn of Landon's death, she doesn't hesitate to give her blood to cure MG from the poison. Kaleb tells MG that they're family now. Everyone gathers to bury Landon's body, but then the body starts to burn and turns to ash, before a fully healed Landon rises from the ashes. Alaric realizes that Landon is a phoenix.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Kaleb is very protective of MG and asks Rafael to keep him entertained during spring break, while Kaleb is on the road trip with Alaric.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: Hope makes a dangerous potion that can help job Rafael's memory, but Emma is unwilling to give him something so drastic. Rafael injects Emma with a sedative and takes the potion.
  • Everybody Knew Already: According to Kaleb, everyone at the school knows that Rafael slept with Lizzie.
  • Flash Back: Much of the storyline is told through Rafael's recollections, as he's slowly regaining his memories of the night before.
  • Fur Against Fang: Rafael attacked and bit MG after the latter attacked and drained Landon. A werewolf's bite is poisonous to a vampire, thus leading to MG being nearly dead when they find him.
  • I Have No Son!: This is MG's father's reaction after MG reveals his vampire fangs to him. Being a preacher, the man treats the worlds as very much black and white.
  • Immediate Sequel: The episode starts immediately after the previous one.
  • Instant Sedation: Emma drops as soon as Rafael injects her with a sedative. Justified, since he injects her in the neck, so the brain would feel the effects almost immediately. Plus, the sedative is earlier used to keep him calm, implying it's meant for a werewolf.
  • Internal Reveal: Landon figures out that Rafael has feelings for Hope. They both know that Rafael would never act on them, but Landon doesn't want Rafael to keep his feelings bottled up inside, knowing that eventually it'll blow.
  • The Phoenix: Landon's body burns to ash on the morning after his death, before a fully-healed Landon rises from the ashes. The episode ends with Alaric asking if Landon is familiar with the legend of the phoenix.
  • The Power of Blood: Only a tribrid's blood can heal a vampire who has been bitten by a werewolf. Otherwise, the poison will kill them in a matter of hours. Fortunately, Alaric has a tribrid on hand. Despite Hope feeling devastated after learning about MG killing Landon, she doesn't hesitate to give him her blood for a second.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Landon comes back from the dead, possibly implying he can't die permanently.
  • The Reveal:
    • MG's mom made a deal with Alaric to keep him at the school and not allow him to contact her or his father, who doesn't know about his son's undeath status.
    • Landon is revealed to be a phoenix (well, probably half-phoenix, since his mom is likely human).
  • Take That!: When MG's mom says that her husband's religion has no place for a person coming back from the dead, Landon counters by name-dropping Jesus and Lazarus, both of whom were resurrected.
