Written By Denis Hamill, Julie Martin, and Warren Leight

Directed By Jean De Segonzac

An ICE agent is arrested on charges of rape after having been caught in an undercover sting operation. However, detectives soon learn of an even bigger case when the agent decides to squeal on his boss, who is reportedly trading green cards for sexual favors. Meanwhile, Rollins and a Sergeant involved in the case become close when the Sergeant takes Rollins out to a romantic dinner.

Tropes

  • Age-Gap Romance: Rollins and Khaldun's undercover story involves this. Their age difference is not huge, but O'Toole fixates on it, claiming it (among other factors) to be a red flag, in order to pressure Rollins into sex.
  • Bigot with a Badge: Variation: O'Toole isn't a cop, but ICE is still law enforcement and O'Toole uses his position to abuse immigrants, believing that he is fighting against "an invasion".
  • Blatant Lies: O'Toole claims that him extorting sex from the wives was a test of how faithful they are to their husbands and therefore of how real the marriage is. However, he put the one who rejected him in jail, whereas the ones who agreed got their green cards.
  • Call-Back: While interviewed by O'Toole, Rollins claims to be a bartender - the same cover story she used for her bookie back when she used to gamble.
  • Honey Trap: Rollins poses as bait for O'Toole.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: One of O'Toole's victims denies he ever touched her, before the detectives even ask her about that, which makes it obvious that he did.
  • Insistent Appellation: Buchanan makes a point of addressing Carisi as "detective" rather than "counselor", alluding to his lack of experience as an ADA.
  • Marriage of Convenience: Maggie and Patrick are both gay and want green cards.
  • Maternity Crisis: One of O'Toole's victims refuses to testify because she is pregnant and fears the child is his.
  • Mistaken for Racist: When the SVU detectives pursue a subway groper who happens to be Black, an angry crowd accuses them of PoliceBrutality.
  • The Reason You Suck: Carisi rakes O'Toole over the coals for abusing his power and taking advantage of vulnerable immigrants,
  • Ship Tease: Rollins' and Khaldun's undercover story about working together for years but only acting on the attraction after he changed jobs was too familiar to Amanda and Sonny's relationship, particularly this season, for viewers to overlook. Carisi also isn't comfortable with the thought of Rollins potentially being interested in Khaldun.
  • Stupid Evil: Varik is dumb enough to post upskirt photos at work on a government computer.
  • Suppressed Rage: Carisi is clearly seething as O'Toole rants about how he "protects the country borders"; at some point he looks like he's about to beat the crap out of the guy, but he manages to restrict himself to a verbal smackdown and making sure he's put behind bars for a long time.
  • Title Drop: O'Toole tells his victims, "I deserve some loving too" before raping them.
  • Undercover as Lovers: Rollins and Sergeant Hasim Khaldun go undercover posing as a Green Card couple.
