Carisi's sister's troubled fiancé, Tommy, accuses his female parole officer of raping him and framing him for possession when he doesn't comply. With the help of his squadmates, Carisi investigates Tommy's allegation, but Barba faces an uphill battle convincing a jury that a woman can rape a man. However, Tommy is not alone, as his officer has other parolees under her thumb.
Tropes
- Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Defied and deconstructed after Carisi's sister's fiancé is raped at gunpoint by his parole officer. The trope does come into play when the officer's supervisor treats it like a joke and the victim's girlfriend blames him for "cheating" on her (until Olivia sets her straight). However, the police take the case seriously, it's clear that the victim's life is being ruined by the experience, and when the officer tries to explain herself in the end, she gives obviously lame excuses and comes across as wholly unsympathetic to the audience. The double standard is invoked here to show that the case is a hard sell, but it is clear that the writers intend the viewers to reject it.
- "Not If They Enjoyed It" Rationalization: Deconstructed. Both Carisi and his sister are initially skeptical of Tommy's story because they struggle to understand how he could have performed the act in question if he wasn't willing (with Carisi's initial take being that the victim "had to have been into it, or nothing would've worked"), but Carisi comes around as soon as he sees Olivia's reaction to the story, and the sister eventually does as well after a talk with Olivia.
