An unidentified woman is found unconscious in the river near the Mayor's home. The investigation uncovers a wild side to an otherwise normal wife and mother, who now lies comatose in a hospital bed.
Tropes
- Bittersweet Ending: Ariel eventually succumbs to her injuries by the end of the episode. It's also implied that even if she had lived her marriage may not have worked itself out. However her husband and sons got to leave New York knowing she didn't die due to partying or an affair but simply by being kind to the wrong stranger, and see that the last recording on her phone was a re-affirmation of her love for them.
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Ariel gets assaulted and dies because she gave half a sandwich to the wrong homeless man.
- Truth in Television: One of the first SVU episodes to firmly establish that sexuality and gender expression aren't one and the same (with regards to the heterosexual cross-dressing schoolteacher), which is now widely accepted as fact.
