Recap / Law & Order S10 E5 "Justice"

Go To

Defense attorney Marty Felder's murder appears to be related to a suspect with ties for another murder for which a man named Steve Dupree was convicted. Jamie Ross reappears to represent Michael Gordon, who claims to have evidence that could mean the exoneration of Dupree, whom McCoy believes was wrongfully convicted.

Tropes present in this episode.

  • The Bus Came Back: Jamie Ross is back, but as a defense attorney.
  • Karma Houdini: While McCoy gets Andrew Wolinsky indicted, he is denied the opportunity to prosecute him for his behavior, which resulted in the wrongful conviction of Steve Dupree
  • Miscarriage of Justice: While arrested for an unrelated charge, Gordon confessed to a murder to Jamie Ross, his defense attorney at the time. She tried to get around client-attorney privilege by calling in an anonymous tip to the district attorney for the murder case, Andrew Wolinsky, hoping it would get Steve Dupree cleared. However, Wolinsky was more interested in how the murder case could help him become a judge that he ignored the tip and evidence from a detective in the case. He went on to find Dupree guilty and sentenced him to death.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: The reason why Ross called in an anonymous tip. Attorney-client privilege prevented her from disclosing anything Gordon told her, but she had information that would clear Steve Dupree and figured out a way around privilege. The episode ends with her waiting to appear on a hearing about her actions.
