Arts patron Lucy Young is found murdered in her loft, her hands cut off at the wrists and her mouth taped. Briscoe and Green find out that she liked to sponsor artists, the farther away from the mainstream the better. One of those artists, Mark Vee, had created "Perfect Woman #3", a portrait where the subject has no mouth or hands, just like Lucy was posed. The detectives talk to a journalist who had been interviewing Vee, and she points out a man who was creating a disturbance during the exhibit of Vee's painting. The detectives track down Larry Brunig, who claims he was not at the gallery. After the DA's office takes a look at letters to the editor, they find that Brunig did write a letter to the Daily Ledger that could be considered a threat, but he is eventually ruled out. An incident in Barcelona where he tried to vandalize a Dali painting of a woman with no head, hands or feet comes out. During his trial for murder one, he claims extreme emotional disturbance in his defense. He says he just wanted to talk to Lucy Young about the art she sponsored (for example, Madonnas submerged in body fluid, or animal feces). In the end, he is found guilty.
