Recap / Kingdom Hearts II Mission 19 Port Royal 2

Go To

Returning to Port Royal, Sora, Donald, and Goofy find Jack Sparrow under assault by some cursed pirates. After helping him deal with them, they wonder why the curse has returned. Elizabeth tells them that Will went to the Isla de Muerta to investigate, so they decide to go there as well. They spot the Interceptor with an unconscious Will aboard. After rescuing him, he tells them that someone in a black hood took the gold.

On the deck of the Black Pearl, they are confronted by Number X of Organization XIII, who has the cursed chest in tow. He summons a Heartless called the Grim Reaper, forcing them to do battle. They defeat it with relative ease, sending it flying into the ocean. Number X reappears and removes his hood, revealing himself as a blond gambler named Luxord. This makes him the final member of the Organization to reveal his identity. Before they can do anything, Luxord invokes "parley," which according to the rules of the Pirate's Code, means that they are obligated to hear his negotiations before resorting to violence.

Luxord offers to give the chest back, but he takes four of the gold coins and gives them to his Nobodies, which promptly flee. The Grim Reaper reemerges from the sea, now empowered by the curse of the chest. It blows them onto the Interceptor, which Luxord promptly destroys with the Black Pearl's cannons. After waking up, Sora and Jack find themselves in a ship graveyard, where Jack has been cursed again. He says that he hasn't stolen any coins, so the Grim Reaper must have cursed him. Sora, Donald, and Goofy are fine, which Goofy chalks up to them being from other worlds.

After exploring the ship graveyard for a while, they find one of the Nobodies that stole a coin. They defeat it and retrieve the medallion, but there are still three to go. Elizabeth shows up with another ship, and they explain what happened. Afterwards, they venture across the sea in search of the three other Nobodies until they find all four coins. Sora concludes that Luxord is probably in Port Royal because the Organization wants to collect hearts; therefore, they would naturally go places that have lots of people.

Back in town, they find the Grim Reaper with the chest. After returning the four coins, the Heartless returns to its normal, less threatening form, but Jack is still cursed; they have to defeat it to return him to normal. The Grim Reaper knocks several coins out of the chest, restoring the curse, so they have to collect them before they can hurt it. After doing so, they destroy the Grim Reaper. Jack returns to normal, but Luxord appears just in time to collect the Grim Reaper's very powerful heart. He congratulates Sora before vanishing. They decide to shut the chest tight and drop it into the sea so the curse will never return. With the Aztec curse gone for good, the trio moves on in their search for the Organization's stronghold...

  • Ability Required to Proceed: Defeating the Grim Reaper rewards Magnara, which is needed to unlock the "Ursula's Revenge" chapter in Atlantica.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Jack mispronounces Sora's name as "Zola", and has to be corrected. To be frank, the name "Sora" would be seen as exotic in 18th century Jamaica, while "Zola" is an uncommon Italian surname.
  • Adaptational Alternate Ending: Since Jack the Monkey was Adapted Out, the cursed medallions were instead thrown directly into the sea. The Isla de Muerta was established to have sunk in Dead Man's Chest, though.
  • Arc Villain: Luxord in the present day, and Hernán Cortés posthumously.
  • Derelict Graveyard: SDG and Jack wash up in one after Luxord blows up the Interceptor with them on her. It is vastly different than the one shown in At World's End.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Although the Interceptor is still sunk by the Black Pearl, she lives longer in the game, and her sinking is ordered by Luxord instead of Barbossa.
  • Four Is Death: A theme in this episode. Four medallions are taken from Cortés' chest, leaving Jack undead. This time, however, the source of the curse is the Grim Reaper Heartless.
  • Honor Among Thieves: Jack is willing to accept Luxord's parley as it's in the pirate code. Sora objects because neither he nor Organization XIII show regards for Honor Before Reason.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: Jack refuses to face Organization XIII, and plans on dumping everyone back at Port Royal and fleeing. This bites him hard when Luxord shows up and invokes a parley, takes four medallions, and blasts Jack off his ship.
  • Sinking Ship Scenario: Luxord has the Interceptor sunk with the Black Pearl's cannons after having the Grim Reaper blow the party onto her. The ship's remains end up in a Derelict Graveyard.
  • Wrong Context Magic: The Aztec curse doesn't affect Sora, Donald, Goofy, or Luxord due to them being outsiders.
