Riku arrives in Traverse Town, the place where Sora began his first journey. He meets Joshua, a mysterious youth who tells him that the world is split in two and that Sora is in the other half. Joshua introduces Riku to using Spirit Dream Eaters in battle. In the Second District, the two meet Beat, who is also using Dream Eaters, but after defeating Beat's Dream Eater, Riku drops.
When he comes to, Riku notices a girl being chased into the First District. When he saves her, she introduces herself as Shiki and agrees to follow him through the town. The two eventually make it into the Fifth District, where they meet the Mysterious Figure. The Figure tells Riku that he will wander in sleep forever before subduing Shiki. As Beat arrives to watch over Shiki, the Mysterious Figure summons the Hockomonkey Nightmare, which Riku follows into the Garden before defeating it.
Upon the Nightmare's defeat, he, Beat, and Shiki see Sora's side of the world, where Sora, Rhyme, Neku, and Joshua are waiting. They realize that they will reach each other when their hearts are connected. Joshua talks to Sora and Riku in their sides of Traverse Town, explaining that the town appeared as a manifestation of Joshua's dreams, and that it was split because of the Mysterious Figure's actions. After he bids them farewell, Sora and Riku then spot the Sleeping Keyhole and seal it together in their sides.
