Recap / King Of The Hill S 8 E 15 Apres Hank Le Deluge

Go To

A flood warning in Arlen drives everyone into the Tom Landry Middle School Gym, where Hank tries to keep everyone from going nuts — and ends up losing his power to Bill.

Tropes:

  • Drunk with Power: Bill after being put in charge of the shelter. This being Bill, he abuses it immediately and blames Hank for everything.
Kahn: Your hillbilly friend is drunk on power for once, instead of corn-squeezin's!
  • Idiot Houdini:
    • A rather infamous example for both Bill and the citizens of Arlen, as they give Hank the business, and receive zero comeuppance for it.
    • Everett, the dam inspector who triggered the entire fiasco by going to the bathroom while the dam was about to rupture, immediately placed all the blame on Hank and is not seen again afterwards, thus rendering him this as well.
  • Imaginary Friend: When Hank tries to explain to the town about his decision to flood part of it, they quickly assume Hank is making up the story even after he finds the man responsible for leaving his post.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Though Everett had no business placing all the blame on Hank for botching the dam's flood-regulator system (when he was supposed to watch the system, but went to the bathroom at quite possibly the worst possible time), he bluntly points out Hank had no business being in that room if he wasn't the certified specialist for it, especially at such a potentially disastrous time, no matter how much he knew about those procedures.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: The citizens of Arlen, and especially Bill, who gets increasingly Drunk with Power as the episode goes on. The only ones who don't blame Hank by the end are Peggy, who is sedated for most of the episode thanks to Bill's actual supportive help, and the kids, who spend their time in their own little adventure.
