Recap / King Of The Hill S 13 E 19 The Boy Cant Help It

Go To

Bobby befriends a group of girls. Hank and the boys build a shopping cart for Spongy.

  • Comically Missing the Point: Because of the standards of their day, Peggy wasn't allowed to ask out Hank and had to leave him signals. During one conversation, he talked to her about Boomhauer's car they fixed. When Peggy suggests they go out Friday night, Hank doesn't understand and tells her he'll tell Boomhauer to drive the car over to her house, so she can see it.
  • Condescending Compassion: The trio of girls fawn over Bobby, but have absolutely no respect for him.
  • Eating Pet Food: Spongy and the other homeless eat heated up cat food, and invites Bill, Dale and Boomhauer to have some. With nothing left to do, they agree.
  • A Man Is Always Eager: Hank is upset that Bobby isn't taking the active role in the relationship between him and the girls, because as a boy, it's something he should be doing. And rather than explain what or why he should be doing these things, Hank tells him "you're just supposed to know!"
  • Open-Minded Parent: Peggy has no problem with Bobby acting in an untraditional manner, at least until she sees him sitting by the phone for hours on end, waiting for the girls to call him.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Hank is right that Bobby shouldn't associate with the girls, but his problem is more so with the fact that Bobby isn't acting "like a man" or doing traditionally manly things, not that the girls are taking advantage of him or talking down to him.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: While Spongy enjoys the new cart, he has to refuse it because it's so big and flashy, making him an obvious target for the other homeless who'll either steal it from him or worse.
  • You Are Grounded!: Bobby is grounded because he "refuses to act like a boy."
