Recap / Kids Incorporated S 5 E 9 When The Clock Strikes Twelve

Go To

The last episode to feature Ryan as the main character sees him make the school baseball team; only to find himself worrying about a possible confrontation with a player he beat out for the team named "Big Eddie" (guest star Glen A. Fagin in his second straight episode).

Things kick off with "Shake Your Love"; during which an athletic-looking young man known as "Big Eddie" arrives giving Riley a message. Upon the song ending, Ryan's in a great mood, buying for everyone - leading to others trying to guess why (including Richie guessing "anniversary"). As it happens, Ryan made the baseball team after knocking a pitch out of the park during tryouts.

The celebratory mood proves short-lived when Riley mentions Big Eddie wanted to see Ryan. It turns out Big Eddie was the guy Ryan beat out of a spot on the team; leaving Ryan deflated as a result ("Catch Me, I'm Falling") and in panic mode as the other band members bail out on him before Big Eddie arrived at "high noon". After some time, Ryan resigns himself to whatever ended up happening ("A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do! I just wonder what that is.")

In Ryan's case, what he's gotta do is daydream he's in The Wild West; where Ryan (as the Hombre), arrives to pay a visit to friends at the local saloon; only for a telegram to arrive with bad news: The notorious outlaw Badlands Ed had escaped and was coming to settle the score; causing the others to scatter much like Ryan’s real-world bandmates just when he needs help (“I Need Help”); with the undertaker briefly returning to take measurements and Sheriff Richie quitting and naming Hombre as his replacement; with even Miss Kitty trying to convince him to leave town (when she says she wouldn’t think any less of him if he did, Hombre counters by sating ‘’he’’ would think less of himself if he left town). Hombre decides to settle this showdown (“We Can Work It Out”).

We don’t see the resolution of this showdown with Badlands Ed; as we return to the real world, with Ryan now knowing what this man’s gotta do: Face Big Eddie. When Ryan returns, the others apologize for running out. Fortunately for Ryan; his fears were unjustified, as it turned out Big Eddie wanted to…congratulate Ryan on making the team, setting up closing song “I Saw Him Standing There”.
