Recap / Kid Cosmic S 1 E 6 Kid Cosmic And The Epic Fail

Go To

Pushed to the edge by Chuck’s nonstop taunts, Kid decides to steal the other four rings and go it alone in a desert showdown with Chuck's Great Leader.

Tropes:

  • Anti-Climax: The Great Leader is shown as menacing as Chuck praised about. Until he is confronted by the death dogs. He tosses the rings away and commands a retreat in panic, leaving Chuck behind.
  • Car Fu: Jo tries to pull one on the Great Leader in Papa G's truck, but he just simply teleports them back to the diner, to her annoyance.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: The Biker in Black, who has been seen in the background of many previous episodes, is revealed to be part of a military group.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Chuck's monologue to Kid is to discuss this and brings up Kid's own past, with his parents klled in a car accident.
  • Downer Ending: Kid's hastily-cobbled plan to take on the Great Leader ends with him defeated and dejected, Chuck stranded on Earth, and the stones being taken by the government.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Chuck goes on and on about how brave and courageous his leader is, a few short minutes before finding out he's anything but.
  • Honor Before Reason: After learning that Papa G orchestrated the robot attack, Kid tries to earn himself a much needed win, even if it meant allowing Chuck to summon the Great Leader and his forces.
  • Ironic Echo: If you remember Jo's This Is Reality statement on Kid in the first episode, it's fair of the latter throwing it back to her when she attempted to stop from taking down the Great Leader all by himself.
  • One-Man Army: Kid takes on Chuck's army by himself. He does a surprisingly good job at using all five rings after getting used to them. At least until he tries wielding their power all at once.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: As Chuck gives a taunting villain speech while waiting for the Great Leader to arrive, Kid just stands silently, not reacting to him at all.
  • Phlebotinum Overdose: Kid switches each ring mid-battle to make use of their powers. But when he tries to use all five at once to take on the Great Leader, he is quickly overwhelmed by their power and is left in agony until he takes them off.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: After Kid learns that the whole alien fight from Episode 5 was fake, Jo and Papa G try to apologize but Kid rebuffs them.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Chuck gives Kid one in the beginning of the episode after the latter learned of Papa G's homemade robot army.
  • Rewind, Replay, Repeat: Kid has this reaction once Stuck Chuck reveals to him that the "alien robot army" was Papa G all along. He sits on his bed watching the reveal over and over until Chuck goads him too far.
  • Shout-Out:
    • One comic panel is a reference to "Spider-Man No More", while another references "The Death of Jean Grey."
    • Chuck claims that Kid is like the "bat guy" except without the "talent, brains, strength, money or success".
  • Silent Credits: No music is played during the credits.
  • Wham Episode: We learn why Kid Cosmic doesn't have any parents, the Great Leader is defeated and leaves Chuck on Earth, and the government steps in to take the rings themselves. We also learn the government are the ones controlling the death dogs.
