Summary

Kamen Rider Gavv Ep 46 Shomas Determination Recap

Shoma: Nyelv came to me asking to join forces.
The plan was for us to overthrow the President with me taking over his position, thus preventing further human casualties.
I decided to accept his offer.
No matter the cost, I will keep the Human World safe!

Shoma accepts Nyelv's proposal to infiltrate the Granute World in his half-brother's plan to take out President Jaldak. But will things really work out?

Meanwhile, back in the human world, Hanto, Rakia, and Sachika are scrambling to bring Shoma back when an unexpected person offers his assistance...

Tropes

  • Abusive Parents: During Nyelv's flashback, Zomb is shown mocking Nyelv for the sickly constitution passed down from his mother, calling him "worthless" and purposely comparing him to Lango and Glotta.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Played for Drama. Shoma yet again decides to run off and solve his issues on his own without telling the others what he's doing. This time, that reaches its logical conclusion: The Infiltration fails and Bocca thoroughly massacres Shoma — if Lango hadn't given the heroes an entrance to the Granute World, Shoma would be long dead.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Sachika asks if Shouma will be happy leaving everything behind.
  • Back for the Dead: The part-timer who first appears in #44 watching Nyelv's orientation video resurfaces, dying at Lango's hands after he reveals Nyelv's plan.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Upon hitting Bocca with a Mind Control bullet, the president slumps in his chair, apparently now brainwashed. Just as Shoma is preparing the Gochipod, however, Bocca suddenly attacks him, revealing that the bullet had no effect on him whatsoever.
  • Bathos: The confrontation between Lango and Sachika revolves around Lango offing a fellow employee and being nonchalant about Shoma's fate. Sachika meanwhile is aiming a broom at him and actively gets in the elite Granute's face to yell at him when he invokes business. Hanto and Lakia have to pry her away from him twice and bickering ensues, all while goofy sound effects play and a stone-faced Lango looks on.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Hanto and Lakia manage to save Shouma just before the president finishes him off.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Having confirmed firsthand that the Granute Hunters can't pose a threat to him, Bocca simply orders his Butlers after Rakia and Hanto as they carry an injured Shoma to safety rather than pursuing them himself. This lets them make it back to the human world.
  • Call-Back: Once again, Shoma leaves a Voiceover Letter for Sachika before departing Hapipare, though for different reasons this time.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: Gavv is able to dispose of two elite Butlers on his own while fending off attacks from more (while he and Hanto struggled against them three episodes back), yet Bocca proves to be more than a match.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Before handing over his rival's body to Nyelv, Bocca had already prepared anti-hypnosis measures.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Bocca not only completely wipes the floor with Gavv, but wrings him out several times for good measure. He doesn't even bother taking off his suit, showing how little he's taking the fight seriously.
  • David Versus Goliath: What the battle between Shoma and Bocca essentially comes down to.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While Nyelv did make modifications to the BakeMagnum, he should have considered that someone like Bocca, with the strength and intelligence to become President, wouldn't have given him the technology unless he was sure that Nyelv couldn't use it to backstab him.
  • Disappointed by the Motive: Sachika is furious and tries to attack Lango after he reveals that he killed a Part-Timer, after they told him what he wanted to know, simply cause he views all his employees as disposable tools.
  • Enemy Mine: Downplayed compared to Nyelv teaming up with Shoma, but Lango decides to indirectly assist in Nyelv's plan to assassinate Bocca by letting Rakia and Hanto into the Granute World, partially because he was impressed with Sachika's guts, and partially because, as he points out, Bocca dying helps him just as much as it helps them even if he's not joining in himself.
  • Exact Words: Although Nyelv stays true to his word that he will stop all of Stomach Inc.'s operations on Earth, he never said that he would dispose of the remaining Dark Treats; instead, he plans to use them to influence the Granute aristocracy and secure Shoma's power.
  • Faith in the Foe: Defied; when Lango opens a door to the Granute homeworld for them, the group doesn't buy he's doing it out of brotherly love for Shoma. They know Lango has to have an ulterior motive, but they don't have the time to search for another entrance so they enter it to save Shoma.
  • Freudian Excuse: A flashback to Nyelv's childhood reveals the origins of his constant experimentation to make stronger and stronger creations; his Grandfather Zomb mocked him for being born sickly, spurring him to find ways to prove his own worth.
  • Hope Spot: It seems for a brief moment that Shoma and Nyelv's plan to take down Bocca worked after the latter gets hit by the BakeMagnum's mind-control bullet, but it turns out that Bocca had prepared for this exact situation by making himself Immune to Mind Control.
  • Idiot Ball: Shoma agrees to Nyelv’s plan and leaves for the Granute World without first talking it over with Hanto, Rakia and Sachika, instead opting to leave them a note instead. It’s a pretty jarring move, especially for someone who usually shares everything with his friends.
  • The Infiltration: Nyelv and Shoma's plan hinges on Shoma being able to pose as the former and get close enough to Bocca to hypnotize him. Shoma pulls it off since Bocca can't tell humans apart. It isn't until "Nyelv" pulls out the Gochipod and shows off his red Gavv that Bocca puts two-and-two together.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Sachika learns of Lango's true identity as Shoma's half-brother and former CEO of Stomach Inc.
    • Lango reveals his survival to Hanto and Rakia.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: Sachika is terrified of Lango at first, but when the latter snarks at her for being clueless on how to run a company, Sachika snaps and proceeds to chew Lango out, calling him the clueless one instead. This actually amuses Lango to the point of him giving them a hand in rescuing Shoma.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After defending Shoma from Bocca's attack, Hanto and Rakia promptly grab him and haul ass back to the door.
  • Not So Above It All: Nyelv's backstory shows that he's secretly just as ambitious as the other Stomachs (having been mocked since childhood by Zomb), he's just considerably better at hiding it. Justified however, given he included himself in the scathing critique of the Stomachs he pitched to Shoma last episode.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Hanto and Lakia look about ready to loose a brick when they see Sachika face down Lango.
    • Shoma is utterly shocked at Bocca quickly shaking off the effects of the hypnotism and revealing that he took precautions just in case Nyelv tried to use it against him.
    • Nyelv has a massive one at seeing Bocca walk into his lab, realizing that Shoma's assassination attempt failed.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Nyelv's plan to assassinate Bocca has Shoma dress up as Nyelv in order to infiltrate Bocca's palace and get close enough to him to mind control him with the BakeMagnum. It works due to Bocca's Racial Face Blindness.
Bocca: Humans all look the same to me.
  • Punched Across the Room: Bocca opens his fight with Gavv by launching him all the way across the main hall of his mansion and out with a single punch, overpowering Over Gavv's invincible armor.
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: The first thing Shoma does upon reaching the Stomach mansion with Nyelv, is demand the recall of all the Part-Timers and closing all the doors to Earth. Nyelv points out the can't do that without arousing suspicion.
  • Storm of Blades: To pin Master Gavv down, Bocca orders his Butlers to throw their swords at him. There are so many Butlers in the room that it results in this, leading to a shot of Master Gavv in Bullet Time using them as Projectile Platforms.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: Vram uses his shield as a boomerang to dispose of some of Bocca's Butlers.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Sachika has the hutzpah to try and argue with Lango over how to run a company. He opts to let her be, mostly out of amusement, but he could have easily killed her at any point.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Nyelv assumed that, since Gavv dealt Lango a Curb-Stomp Battle after unlocking the full power of Over/Master, he'll be able to defeat Bocca just as easily (with a little help from the BakeMagnum). Bocca proceeds to prove immune to the BakeMagnum's mind control and to be on a whole different league from Lango in sheer power.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: Nyelv reveals the core details of his plan to Shoma onscreen, which unsurprisingly means that their attempt to assassinate Bocca fails.
  • Villain Respect: Despite witnessing how Lango killed the part-timer and knowing his reputation through Shoma, Sachika chews out Lango while needing to be held back by Lakia and Hanto. Lango is amused and somewhat impressed by her courage; it's implied that this is one of the reasons he opened the door to the Granute World.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sachika chews out Shoma for going off on his own, demanding to know if abandoning everything that makes him happy is really what he wants.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Lango giving the Granute Hunters access to the Granute World essentially has him win no matter what happens: either Shoma and the other Riders are defeated at Bocca's hands, or they manage to defeat Bocca and free Stomach Inc. from the Jaldaks' control.
  • You Are Not Alone: Sachika and the others chew Shoma out for deciding yet again to go off and try to solve his issues on his own, claiming that they have a stake in the fight against the Jaldaks and Stomachs too.

Gochizo used:
