Recap / Kaeloo S 3 E 18 Lets Play Once Upon A Time The Sequel

Go To

Kaeloo tries to tell her friends a bedtime story from a book of fairy tales. Mr. Cat, who feels like the fairy tales won't help Stumpy and Quack Quack deal with the real world, interrupts each story to show what would have happened had the story taken place in the modern world, and how the characters could have dealt with it.

"Let's Play Once Upon a Time, The Sequel" contains the following tropes:

  • Borrowed Catchphrase: At the end of the episode, Kaeloo jokingly tells Mr. Cat that she "hates his guts", which is Stumpy's catchphrase.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma: Mr. Cat points out that it would actually be creepy and gross for a person to kiss and take advantage of an unconscious stranger's body.
  • Fractured Fairytale: Mr. Cat makes every fairy tale in the book more realistic, for example by having Cinderella report her stepmother to the police for abuse, or having the prince call a doctor to wake up Sleeping Beauty instead of just kissing her.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Kaeloo tries to tell fairy tales as bedtime stories to Stumpy and Quack Quack, Mr. Cat interrupts each story, takes over the narration, and makes it more realistic (like having Cinderella call CPS, for example). When Kaeloo gets mad at him for "ruining" the stories, he points out that the original versions of the fairy tales would not help Stumpy and Quack Quack learn how to deal with real life problems.
  • Hurricane of Puns: Mr. Cat drops a series of puns in the French dub. Kaeloo is not amused.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Mr. Cat and Kaeloo are walking down the street and Mr. Cat drops a Hurricane of Puns, to which Kaeloo flatly tells him "I hate your guts".
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Mr. Cat says he finds Quack Quack and Stumpy's innocence to be "adorable".
  • Sequel Episode: To "Let's Play Once Upon a Time".
  • X-Ray Sparks: Stumpy is electrocuted and his skeleton becomes visible for a second or so.
