Jessica struggles with what to do with her mother. Meanwhile, Hogarth meets with Inez's old contact Shane and Trish's addiction causes her to make a fatal move.

- Blatant Lies: Trish gives a lot of non-convincing excuses for her addiction to Malcolm. As a recovering addict himself, he's having none of it.
- Continuity Nod: Not to the show itself, but to the larger MCU, as the Raft, the prison designed for superhumans, gets mentioned as the most likely place they'll send Alisa to.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best: Discussed as Alisa 'corrects' Jessica's idealistic interpretation of her pre-car crash life.
- Everyone Has Standards: Malcolm is fine with manipulating Benowitz into digging up dirt against Chao, but he thinks that blackmailing him with telling his wife about him being a closeted homosexual is taking things too far.
- Guile Hero: Malcolm manipulates Benowitz into digging up dirt against Chao.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Alisa freaks out over several minor issues throughout the episode. Jessica is constantly afraid of her hurting somebody.
- It Gets Easier: Alisa tells Jessica that the murders she committed became easier, as the body count grew over time.
- Oh, Crap!: Malcolm lets Trish talk him into using the inhaler. He immediately recognizes it as an incredibly dangerous and seriously freaks out.
- Self-Made Woman: Jeri mentions to Inez that she grew up in a small trailer with four siblings and got bullied regularly in school. She built all of her wealth up from nothing.
- Stockholm Syndrome/Lima Syndrome: There is clearly a case there between Alisa and Karl Malus.
- A Tankard of Moose Urine: Jessica remarks that her mother's preferred wine tastes like compost and air freshener.
- Took a Level in Idealism: After talking to Shane, Jeri feels hope again for the first time in a long while.
- Too Much Information/Parental Sexuality Squick: When Alisa tells Jessica about the problems she had with her father, she also mentions that they hadn't had sex in over a year. Jessica does not want to hear it.
- Toxic Friend Influence: Trish convinces Malcolm to try the inhaler after she dispatches the homophobes, insisting that it is not addictive. He regrets it instantly and then tells her to stay away from him.
- Wham Shot: An assassin tries to shoot Jessica and her mom with a sniper rifle during the last scene.
